I got these because my old IBM ThinkPad laptop has "speakers" that can't really be heard unless you're hovering right over them, and I'm not a headphone fan (besides, there's nobody to disturb), and the quality of those built in speakers is worse than tinny. When I listen to streaming video from certain web sites, I want to park the laptop away from me and do something else. Hence the search for external but portable speakers.
These do indeed come in a neat storage box that everything fits into without you being a puzzle master. Hookup is a no-brainer, and for the size, the sound is amazing. I even tried them with a classical music CD, and they are fine. The "3D" feature makes them sound like much bigger speakers.
The supplied USB power cable is nice, with an attached protective cap for the USB end.
The controls are simple and having it wake up with low volume is good design.
They're exactly as described in the specs and the preceding reviews. All I could offer is a wish list: The storage box is not something you'd carry around, so I'll probably manufacture a simple carrying bag. If you were going to use it with a portable player, you wouldn't even need to pack the input extension & power cables, just the little dog-bone shaped device itself with the short input cable tucked neatly inside.
The speaker part does tend to drop kerclunk! on the base when you unfold it until you know it's going to do that. I also noted that if you don't have the little inplut cable carefully tucked into the base, the speaker part leaves a dent in the cable, which would be wearing after a while, and the input cable is hardwired into speaker case, so difficult to repair/replace.
Also, I wish there were another power input cable besides the USB cable, so you wouldn't have to use batteries with devices like portable CD players.
But I'm very pleased with this purchase.

I got this unit and was amazed by the sound. I used it in my car for the 40 minute drive to work with my mp3 player, really sounded first class. When I get to work at the high school, I can close it up and put it away, no worries about theft. However, after a month of opening and closing it everyday, the really badly designed wire leading to the mp3 jack started to cut. I tried electrical and scotch tape, but the wired just kept cutting. Shortly thereafter, the sound stopped. Now if I wiggle the wire, I may get sound as long as I do not move! This is a great sounding set, it just suffers from bad design. If you buy it, be cafeful of the back wire, maybe tape it down from the beginning and it might last longer.Digital camera Review: Amazing little speaker

I'm amazed at the sound from this little speaker. I wanted something to use in my camper for background music and this thing more then fulfills my needs. Compact and amazing sound for something so small. If your looking for something with big base and loud sound, then obviously this is not for you. If I had a negative, the audio cord is to short, if this was a problem you could always get an extension. I will be curious how long the batteries will last.Digital camera Review: Audio Source

I really like the sound on these speakers for my little MP3 player. My son, with more sophisticated tastes in equipment than I is using it on the laptop rather than the default speakers and also likes it. I was only disappointed that it didn't come with a plug attachment and doesn't specify which one is best to buy.Digital camera Review: Awesome!!

This is really an owesome little speaker. Sound is great. I don't only use it with my MP3 player but with my laptop as well. I'm enjoying my music from both source. Plus with all the extra cables included, it's really a steal for the price. I agree with the previous reviewer, there is an issue with the battery compartment cover but it's not a big deal for me. What counts is that I enjoy my music playing in this little speaker.
