These speakers are great. They add just enough sound to enjoy music off of a laptop. The two sound settings allow you to adjust for the occasion- whether you are watching a movie or listening to various styles of music. The extender chord to plug into the sound source is great but it would be better if they made the original chord that long. The box it comes in is stylish and fits well on a desk or dresser. The biggest aspect of these speakers are that they are small enough to take on a trip, but large enough to produce quality sound (although they are too large for everyday travel). I really bought this to listen to movies better on a laptop. I stood 20 feet from the laptop and speakers and could still hear the movie that was playing in great detail (unlike the original laptop speakers, which lose their sound during movies at 3 feet or so). The Audio Source DB5 speakers are a great little pair of speakers that have good sound quality and are easy to travel with. The only problem I had was getting the battery cover off. I wanted some small speakers to hook to my iPod, so I wouldn't have to wear headphones all the time (I HATE the earbud-style headphones). These speakers are very good, with clear sound, strong bass, in an interesting "clamshell" design that's compact and lightweight. I haven't played them continuously yet, so I can't attest to battery life. I picked these speakers over a few others, because they came with a cord that allows them to run off the USB port of my PC. I have a "power cube" for my iPod so I can plug it into a regular electric outlet, and the USB cord for these speakers works perfectly with that as well, allowing me to extend the battery life substantially.
I consider these a very good deal. My only negative comment is the "travel case" the speakers come in is unnecessarily large. It has a top section where the speakers fit, with two drawers below for cords. It could have been better designed, but then I didn't buy these for the case!!

The speakers are perfect in sound quality. I'm no audio geek requiring a huge stereo system. It's nice to plug into the laptop (and it can power itself by USB) and watch some episodes with or bring to the beach to have some music.
However, it's very easy to accidentally close it on the cord and cause damage.
The battery case is very difficult to close and almost impossible to open once you have it closed.
It will not run on my rechargable batteries. This sucks! All my other electronics work fine with rechargables.

I read all the reviews and am SO glad I purchased this system. Now I am able to watch a DVD on a laptop and actually hear it. The sound is clear and loud enough to hear in a few rooms of a home. It can plug directly into laptop or iPod, or use USB cord. Someone let me use their SONY and it had a tin sound, but the Audio Source gives a full sound, not tinny at all. It is quite compact and nice that when opened, the attached top folds to set on the base(see picture); the 3.5mm plug is also attached to the base, conserving space. It has a 3-D button to enhance the sound. So, one can listen even in a noisy or larger room. This was definitely worth buying.
