Digital camera reviews of Audio-Technica ATHANC7 Noise-cancelling Headphones

Digital camera Review: A decent noise cancellation headphone
Summary: 3 Stars

My computer monitor sits next to a Wireless G router which uses 2.4 G Hz frequency. It is annoying that the wave from the router is converted to an audiable noise through the headphone.

Digital camera Review: A disappointment
Summary: 2 Stars

This isn't meant so much to bash these specific headphones as it is to share my disappointment with the product in general. This is the only product of this type I've ever owned, I got it for Christmas, and after 2 days, I'm ready to return it. Take this more as a caveat for considering these if you've never used them before than a technical critique or side-by-side comparison to other models.

I read as much as I could about noise-cancellation headphones and knew not to expect complete silence when using them. I'm disappointed that there's no more noise-cancellation than there is. I wanted them to wear while using my backpack-style leaf blower, my weed-eater (for hearing protection), and during the occasional DJ gig I do as a hobby (for both hearing protection and DJ monitoring).

All of this is just my opinion. I conducted no scientific tests to compare these to any sort of standard or to any other headphones. I knew not to expect absolute silence from the noise-canceling technology, and I was aware of the comments made in other reviews about this as well as others' degree of satisfaction with music quality... my expectations weren't that high in other words. Still I'm disappointed that they don't block as much noise as I had hoped for and that the music quality is just very, very average.

For ~$120, they're not worth keeping, IMHO. I get much better music quality from my $79 Shure earbuds. For better noise-cancellation I get better results from those little drugstore foam ear plugs that cost almost nothing. Maybe the technology today just isn't developed enough to get both of these things great in one package.

These didn't seem to be defective. They seemed well made and to work as they're supposed to. They just don't live up to my meager expectations.

Digital camera Review: A good piece of gear
Summary: 4 Stars

These headphones sound very good. Clear and crisp highs and mids. Though the bass does not have the punch I would prefer (I listen to a lot of hip-hop and R&B), it is very adequate and warm. The Noise-canceling function is top-notched. Drowns out most of the ambient noise very well. I can not wait to test these out on an airplane.

The headphones are very comfortable and covers my ears very well. The only issue I have with this product is the noise leakage, but with a caveat. If you have your mp3 player at max volume, the sound will leak. But with the noise-canceling function on, there really is no need to have your player at max volume. With the sound turned down, the sound leak is minimal. Also, having higher quality mp3's (320 vice 196) will allow one to reduce the volume as well.

Would highly recommend these headphones to anyone seeking Bose-quality headphones at a fraction of the price.

Digital camera Review: A great product
Summary: 5 Stars

I have compared these headphones with Bose Triport, Sharper Image Noise Cancelling Headphones, Sony Noise cancelling headphones and I didn't stop there...just for the fun of it, I compared their clarity with 200Watt per channel x 2 high current 4 ohm 5'4" tall speakers too!

I travel a lot these days, Shure/Ultimate Ears were quite tempting for their form factor but I don't like to insert buds in my ear canal. I needed a `work horse' product - buying Bose QC2/QC3 was out of question. I've broken one pair of TriPorts which they `oh so kindly' replaced - Had to be really nice to them while I was boiling inside. Lousy construct and way over priced for the sound they produce.

I read the reviews posted here and decided to buy Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Headphones. Bose TriPorts are a bit warmer but ATH-ANC7 are livelier [No - I am not saying that they are louder - they are livelier - they want to play!] - Once the NC button is pushed - they are ON!

The sound does not have that precious sheen some real high end headphones/speakers posses [Even Bose does not have it, for some it is worth spending those extra $$ for that `sheen' - precious unexplainable sound luster, pure bliss, words don't do justice] - yes, these headphones are a bit flat but they really get the job done - right on the money! As I said - a work horse! A well deserved 5 star rating!

(PS: I don't consider myself an audiophile but friends do - thanks to my Magnepan speakers and Rotel pre-pro/amps! I prefer CDs and DVD audio to MP3 - don't prefer to use equalizers, I have a very selective and limited audio collection which I savor as is - tested these phones using the same.)

Digital camera Review: A great set of working headphones
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought these headphones to wear while running farm equipment. I use a Ford Utility Tractor while bush hogging and found that after many hours of working I needed something that would allow me to listen to prerecorded books. The Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Headphones worked right out of the box. I worked over 8 hours and barely could hear the loud tractor while listening to books, both audio.com and MP3 formats. I also was able to listen to music and talk radio from XM. I like the over the ear style of the ATH-ANC7. The ATH-ANC7 shows itself to be of excellent quality and for the price it is a real value. I highly recommend these to anyone who is working in a loud environment and still wants to listen to an electronic device.
