This machine works beautifully - and it really can shred a credit card - just be really careful about following the page limitations. It will get stopped up and stuck if you try to put more than 8 pages into the feeder. We've burned through 2 shredders in the past two years, and we wanted one that would be able to handle multiple sheets and credit cards. I was skeptical that it could really shred cards, but sure enough it did! While this unit is MUCH quieter than our previous two shredders, this one still is a bit noisy but nothing that would annoy me. It is therapeutic to use this shredder. I insert the paper and it makes a wonderful sound that lets me know that I just shredded something. So far I have only shredded stuff I don't need, I am glad that it doesn't have one of those windows that pops up that asks "are you sure you wish to shred these documents? Click here for yes and here for cancel" This is one thing that starts when you ask it to without asking you a bunch of questions.
All kidding aside, I have not had any bad experiences with this shredder, for the money it was a good deal. Happy shredding to all.

Not tall enough to stand on floor for use..too tall for desk-top and the basket needs to be bigger. I find I'm constantly tamping down or emptying the shreds.
