Digital camera reviews of Belkin Auto Charger for iPod (White)Digital camera Review: Great Product, could use some extra Durability though Summary: 4 Stars
I have a cable going from the headphone jack on this product directly to my head unit, and the sound is better than any of my friend's iPod hookups. This blows away FM Transmitters - the lack of bass on those makes the product worthless if you 'listen' to music rather than just want to 'hear' it.
My only complaint is although I've had it for about a year, the wiring that attaches at the bottom of my iPod is wearing big time. There hasn't been any loss of sound, but I'm worried that it may happen sometime soon.
I have this connected into a Radio Shack brand Cigarette Lighter Splitter with a Radar Detector in the other slot. There is no notable difference in power output from the iPod.
UPDATE: So the unit is still holding together, although the wire is getting more and more frayed all the time. However, it doesn't work with my new iPhone 3G. Which sucks. I know it's Apple's fault, and not Belkin's, but I'm sure there are 3G users out there that would like the functionality of this unit. Too bad :(
Digital camera Review: Great Product, has served me well over the last 4 years!! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this product 4 years ago to use with my iPod in my Chevy Silverado. I have used it pretty much on a daily basis since then. Well, as much use as I get out of the device (plug it in, unplug it, plug in, unplug it...) it has finally given out. The dock connector has become loose, and therefore causes my iPod to pause whenever I hit a bump. Luckily, Belkin offers a Lifetime Warranty on their quality products. I just got off their website after requesting a new unit to be sent to me. All I have to do is pay for shipping to return the old unit. Unbelievable!! And to think I almost bought a brand new one!! Anyway, I expect the replacement to last as long or longer than the original. Also, as has been stated in other reviews already, use the included 3.5mm jack (rather than the iPod earphone jack) to route your music directly into the stereo. You will get crystal clear amplified sound, and you will only need one wire to plug into the iPod.
Digital camera Review: Great Solution if you have a line input on your audio system Summary: 4 Stars
I recently purchased this item to connect my 2nd generation ipod nano to my audio system in my Honda Civic. They Civic comes with a Aux input so I merely connected a 3mm cable to the Belkin device and my stereo. The sound is incredible. Way better than when I was running the output through the headphone jack on the ipod. Once I set the level on the built in amp in the Belkin unit, the sound level is very similar to listening to CDs or radio. Don't have to worry about blasting my ears any more when I change inputs. For the money, this device works great.
Digital camera Review: Great idea - Poorly executed Summary: 1 Stars
I was excited when I first saw this product, as it promised to reduce wire mess by connecting my iPod to both my car's DC source and its cassette adapter through a single cable. As others have stated, the DC adapter works OK, but the pass-through sound is terrible. The built-in amplifier picks up a severe alternator whine off of the DC line and amplifies it, along with the audio from the iPod. Why Belkin didn't include a simple, effective, L-C line filter is beyond me, but its absence renders this product useless. Save your money. By the way, there's nothing wrong with my car's wiring system - my late model Volvo V70 T5 Wagon's radio plays flawlessly and noislessly, even on the AM band, so there's no reason that Belkin shouldn't have been able to design a suitably quiet product.
Digital camera Review: Great idea, but flimsy. Summary: 2 Stars
After a month of usage, the protective insulator came loose from where the cable enters the Ipod Dock connector, exposing bare cable. Three days later, the built-in amplifier blew out. It's a great idea, but I at least got a serious lemon.
