Digital camera reviews of Belkin Backup Battery Pack for iPod 3GDigital camera Review: A little bulky, but quite effective Summary: 4 Stars
The battery backup is a great way to extend the battery life of your iPod. It uses suction cups to attach to the back of your iPod. It is a great way to extend the time between charges. It is a little bulky, but works well. It is roughly the same size as my 60GB iPod.
Digital camera Review: A most valuable accessory! Summary: 5 Stars
This back-up battery system is a prudent addition, especially for those who are using the video ipod and do not want to interrupt a viewing to recharge. In particular, I found this accessory essential during a vacation when I did not have easy access to an outlet. One nice feature is a series of green lights on one end that tell you how much battery life is left. Do remember to turn off the battery back-up when you aren't using it. Also, do note that this system does not recharge the ipod; it simply replaces the ipod's internal charge with its own. The suction cups also neatly keep the unit together.
Digital camera Review: A must have for video iPod users Summary: 5 Stars
Brought this on an 11 hour Transatlantic flight and was able to watch 8 hours of movies on the iPod with one set of batteries. The pack won't fit on your iPod if you have it in a case, but it can function as a kind of "stand". I'm beyond excited about this product. A must have!
Digital camera Review: A serciveable upgrade for your iPod. Summary: 4 Stars
I'm a new proud owner of a 5g black iPod with video. A wonderful product with only one major flaw: not nearly enough juice for any lengthly video watching.
The Belkin Battery Pack nicely remedies this problem, providing some much needed longevity to the iPod's video function. I can now watch several movies and TV shows before I have to worry about the battery running out. Also nice is how neatly it integrates with the iPod itself, attaching itself to the back to become one seemless unit.
The reason I did not give this product a 5 is due to some minor flaws in its design. Firstly, it does not actually charge the iPod's own internal battery, but rather runs the iPod independantly. This isn't really a bad thing except for the fact that the energy is drained from the battery pack even when the iPod itself is turned off! If you forget to switch the battery pack off as well you'll wake up the next morning to drained batteries.
Also, the unit adds a bit of bulk to the iPod. It's nothing you can't eventually get used to, just be ready to learn how to hold your iPod differently when operating it with the battery pack attached. But overall I must say that the folks at Belkin have made the design of the battery pack about as efficient as they possibly could, all things considered.
For best performance use 2500 mAh NiMH rechargeable AA batteries. A decent set plus a charger will set you back roughly $20, but they will last longer than throwaway alkaline batteries, plus they can be recharged hundreds of times, saving you a ton of money in the long run. It's also more convenient to simply recharge the batteries in the battery pack rather than constantly run to the store for a fresh set.
Digital camera Review: Airline flight savior Summary: 5 Stars
Did not feel like watching movies and the music on the flight was not that great. The battery pack allowed me to use my Ipod on the 9 hr flight to Europe and the 10 hr return. Best buy I made for the trip.
