I recently took a trip to Kenya and this device was a lifesaver. Everyone wanted to know where I bought it and could they borrow it. Everyone knows that the battery in the Ipod sucks big time. To the person who had two of these burn up on him...I had a similar experience. My iPod kept locking up with the battery pack plugged in, and the pack got HOT. I replaced the batteries, and suddenly everything was fine. I was curious so I put the original batteries (the ones that came in the package with the battery pack) in a battery tester and got some really strange results...the tester gauge started bouncing all over the scale! It seems that the included batteries are funky in the sense that they don't supply a steady source of power. My new batteries, in the same tester, move the gauge and it STAYS PUT, rock solid. Believe it or not, I ordered this a couple of years ago, and haven't used it yet, it's still in the package !! However, it appears to be a very sturdy unit, and from a visual perspective, I would recommend this unit.

Backup time is great.
Size is inconvenient, it does not fit around many cases for the ipod, nor does it allow easy use while ipod is in a non-powered cradle.
It does not charge the ipod battery.

I have bought it for my daughter's iPod video 30GB, It works very well, but one thing is annoyed me, our iPod has a hard-shell case for screen protection, and this product couldn't fit the hard-shell case, so I want break one wing of the backup battery using the clamp, I am suprised by the wing's tenacity, and just make wider of the wring, that's great!, now it fit to the hard-shell case of iPOD Video!
By the way, first you sould take the wing off from the backup battery, it is a little sticky, but you can carefully do it using screw driver, than wider the wings using clamp, when you satisfied the shape of wings, using super glue(buy from Wal-Mart)to stick it back.
