Digital camera reviews of Belkin F5D5050 USB to 10/100 Ethernet Adaptor - NetworkingDigital camera Review: Missing a part Summary: 5 Stars
I would like to write a good review for the battery charger but I can't because I don't have it. I ordered it on Sept. 18 and it is now Sept. 24 and no charger. The USPS says I should have it by October 14.
Why on earth would someone ship a small item costing more than $350 by ground USPS?!
Digital camera Review: Nice! Summary: 5 Stars
I needed a quick connection to my Toshiba laptop when I did not want to use the built in WiFI, so I purchased the Belkin F5D5050 USB to Ethernet Adaptor, and it worked perfectly as was intended, and I would recommend it to anyone that needed such a device.
Digital camera Review: Perfect for Tivo Summary: 5 Stars
Needed a Tivo usb adapter for my network. Plugged it in after the initial phone based guided setup and it worked instantly.
Digital camera Review: Plug and Play Summary: 5 Stars
The Belkin adapter worked flawlessly. I just plugged it in, then Windows XP found the driver, and off it ran.
Digital camera Review: Replace the motherboard?!! Nah!! Just get this! Summary: 5 Stars
When a storm fried my ethernet port, the Mac forums I researched said you'd have to replace the motherboard to fix it. That, of course, would mean a ridiculous amount of money.
Fortunately, I found an article that recommended this under-$30 device. To make it work with Mac OSX, it explained, you'd just need to download the free Pegasus USB-to-Ethernet driver (found at sourceforge, among others).
Well, I got it today, plugged it in, and at first it didn't pull up an IP address. I called my ISP and went through a couple of simple steps -- something involving a manual setting in my network -- and soon up popped those beautiful IP address numbers. Who knows -- it might have just taken the modem a minute to figure it out and the settings I fiddled with might not have done anything. Point is, it worked with minor hassle.
What a relief! Great product at a great price. (Would be even better if it came with the Mac software/driver - we're not Untouchable Fringe People, you know, Belkin!) ;)
***ADDENDUM: When I upgraded to OS 10.5.6 several months later, the adapter continued to work for a couple of weeks and then it got futzy. It wouldn't work until I unplugged it and replugged it in -- every time I turned the computer on, I'd have to do this.
I was going to buy a replacement but first searched the net to see if this had happened to anyone else. I'm glad I did -- it turns out it *was* related to the upgrade, and a fix was available in the Apple support/discussion forums.
Again, Belkin: Please make your great product more Mac-friendly! One shouldn't have to jerryrig the software to get it to work.
