I use my laptop for hours at a time and while this item might be helping the laptop itself, it is barely helpful for my legs. It seems to channel a lot of hot air out of one side, which creates its own problem.
I use a small Panasonic Toughbook which is about the same size as the stand. I have trouble keeping the laptop on the stand. I have to put the stand and laptop on some kind of tray in order to keep the two pieces together so I can work. I'm glad a few other people find it useful, but I could not recommend this to anyone who uses their laptop for long periods of time.

Belkin F5L001 Laptop Cooling Stand
This fan worked flawlessly for about 20 days. Then, on laptop start up, the fan started making a ratcheting noise as though the blades were striking something. The first time I heard this I almost had a heart attack thinking my hard drive was failing. The noise lasts about 45 seconds after which the fan works fine (until the next morning's start up when it happens all over again), with just the low noise of rushing air. I don't see the fan blades striking anything but the noise happens no matter how the pad is positioned - vertically, horizontally, upside down, etc.

Overall, this is a pretty good product. The fan works very well and keeps my laptop very cool. My only complaints are minor, and probably stem from the size of my laptop - 15.4 inches. I think this is absolutely the largest laptop that would function with this stand.. the USB cord that powers the fan just barely fits into the port on my laptop. Also, the 'legs' that prop up the stand are very wobbly.
