Digital camera Review: Just Right!
Summary: 5 Stars

This unit handles a busy home office just right. It has a small footprint and does not generate much heat. We have momentary power drops (very rural) and it performs like it should.

Digital camera Review: Know the wattage of your machine
Summary: 3 Stars

My Mac G5 with 20" display draws too much power for this unit. Even with NOTHING else plugged in, the Belkin beeps an overload warning the second I power up the Mac. I can run nearly everything else - Cable modem, router, USB hub, etc - without a warning, but the Mac alone draws too much power.

Digital camera Review: No frills, inexpensive solution...

Basically I just wanted something that would prevent from my desktop computer being shut off by a power surge or power outage in the middle of my using it, and this device serves that purpose perfectly.

I do not leave my computer on 24/7 like some people do, so I didn't bother installing the software included.

Overall I love the good looks, functionality, and very reasonable price...just 20 or 30 bucks more than your average surge protector! I use one for my home theater/stereo equipment as well.

* * * UPDATE, 1/29/09: Well, mine died during a power surge last night. All connected components were fine, which I'm glad for. But this Belkin is fried, won't turn on and the reset button on the back doesn't do anything. Strange that there is no user-replaceable fuse on this thing. I've tried everything, so here's saying R.I.P. old boy. I'm going to have to downgrade my rating to 3 STARS, since my APC battery backup in the other room survived without a scratch.

Digital camera Review: No more Belkin for me...
Summary: 2 Stars

This is the second BELKIN UPS system that I have owned in about the last 15 years. It is, unfortunately, also the second BELKIN UPS that has failed when I needed it the most.

After approximately 2 years the system suddenly no longer holds a charge. It really was like one day it works, the next day it doesn't. Exact same problem I had with the first BELKIN. There was no indication on the unit itself that the battery was discharging and would no longer provide battery backup. There was no indication in the software that any sort of fault had occurred. There were no red lights, no warning sounds, nothing.

The power company just came out and installed new smart meters which meant taking the power down for literally 5 seconds (I know because I counted). I was thinking - no problem, I can continue working and there won't be an issue because hey I've got this massive UPS. Nope - power went off and so did the UPS. Not even an attempt to keep the power on.

When the power was restored and I turned the device back on - still no error lights, no message in the software, nothing. The only thing that had changed is that Windows 7 now reports the UPS at 2% power in a "charging status". It has stayed at 2% charging for more than 4 hours. Battery is done, kaputt, busted, over.

So I am pleased to say that I am switching over to a Tripp-Lite system which has never let me down on three other computer/network systems. Bye-bye Belkin.

Your results may vary - but after two Belkin failures I'm no longer willing to give them a chance.

Digital camera Review: Not Suitable For Me
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this battery backup for a very different purpose than it is apparently meant for: I have sleep apnea, and need a "plug-into" power source for my CPAP breathing machine, if regular power is lost. I thought this would work, but it only has an extremely limited time working on battery-only, and I guess is ONLY meant for short-time use in a computer-emergency. Not right for me (unfortunately the description did not mention this aspect of it) so I returned it for a refund - which I received quickly, no questions asked.
