Digital camera reviews of Belkin Flip DVI-D KVM Switch with Remote F1DG102DDigital camera Review: As advertised Summary: 5 Stars
I use this KVM so that my PC (Vista 64) and laptop (XP-pro) can share the same keyboard, video, and mouse. This KVM worked well because it uses DVI and USB. It does not handle non-USB keyboard and mouse and make sure you have the right equipment. No software to install at all. Great price!
Digital camera Review: Best consumer level KVM switch I've Used Summary: 4 Stars
I use this handy little sucker to switch between a MacBook Pro (17") and a MacPro at the office. Works great with USB mouse and keyboard. . .just have to be aware of the sleep settings of your desktops. When switching to a sleeping desktop, the machine will wake up, but it's 50/50 if it detects the KB and mouse. . .you can simply flip/flop back and forth and you're off and running, or you can adjust the sleep settings of your unit. Laptops do not appear to have this problem as they have a built in mouse/keyboard setup and that somehow prevents them from "losing" the ones attached to the KVM.
Also love that that "switch" is a little round button that stands alone and allows you to more fully hide the guts of the thing behind your desk, thus conserving work space.
Digital camera Review: Compact and works as advertised Summary: 5 Stars
I use this with a 30" Apple Cinema Display, Mac Pro and Sun Ultra 20 Workstation (Running Vista Professional 64-bit) with an Apple keyboard and mouse. I have had no problems at all and find that it does the job well. I really like the little remote unit which makes it easy to swap between systems. With this I was able to support my high resolution display with both systems, which is a lot cheaper than having 2 displays of that size/quality :-). Although I could use a remote desktop to do much of what I need to do there are many times when I need to hook up a machine physically to the monitor and this works well. I would recommend this to others.
Digital camera Review: DON'T BUY Summary: 1 Stars
We bought the Belkin Flip DVI directly from Belkin, 1st one didn't work .. stupid button wouldn't switch, video was mostly not working -- they replaced it, the new one is WORSE. (i twas a little surprised at how eager they were to replace it, i wondered how many bad ones they've shipped. the swap out process was a pain in the REAR! had to call different departments for troubleshooting and then for replacement). So, the little button light doesn't' even come on, you can't 'flip' .. they just better take the return and refund me my money ...
now i gotta find a new one ....
just don't ... this one, tooo buggy.
-- edit --
We bought the belkin dvi kvm switch for our son's computers (personal & cyber/charter school) -- we bought it direct from belkin, out of the box it was temperamental, and I only got it to work once. calling tech support (india) they finally determined 'it was the cables' and said we had to call another number to arrange an RMA. i had to give a credit card # if i wanted one shipped right away, and had to fight with them over not paying shipping (i already had paid for that once!) -- a week later i got another one .. only for it to work WORSE. the flip button is flimsy, doesn't work, and the entire design SUCKS. it seems to more work software based than hardware based.
today i got my iogear 'Miniview micro DVI-D KVM with Audio and USB Hub' -- it worked IMMEDIATELY w/o any effort whatsoever. the bonus is that the iogear switch switches based on keyboard input as well as the little button (which is SOLID, NOT flimsy) ... the belkin only works via the keyboard after you've installed special software! (which isn't available for all OS's)
we're also using the belkin (bought it also) ps/2 to USB cable that does actually work.
DON'T BUY THIS SWITCH .. IT STINKS!! Get the Iogear!
Digital camera Review: DON'T BUY THIS Summary: 1 Stars
It is not worth my time to call and talk to tech support anymore, but it is to warn other customers away from this product. DON'T BUY IT. I have a PC and MAC tower, and am a professional film designer. The keyboard and mouse freeze when I play games on either machine if they are attached to this. everything is fine if the key/mouse are plugged directly into the computers. The monitor switching works fine, but why don't they charge me only $30 for a monitor switch and throw out the crap that doesn't work?
I called Belkin 5 times and got lots of instructions to plug, unplug etc. I did everything they asked. No results. They said they would have the "Firmware department" call me and they never called. BIG SURPRISE.
Don't Buy.
