Digital camera reviews of Belkin Flip DVI-D KVM Switch with Remote F1DG102D

Digital camera Review: Works with XP and probably with Vista
Summary: 4 Stars

Update: This works perfectly with my desktop (Windows XP Pro SP2) but not so great with my my Laptop (Vista Ultimate). The laptop sometimes won't recognize the mouse and keyboard after switching back and forth between the desktop and laptop. As others are having no problem with Vista but problems with XP and I have the reverse situation, I assume that the problem is not with the switch per se, but with my laptops configuration. I will experiment and update the review.

I bought it because it supports very large resolutions - according to specifications it will support up to the 1600*2560 resolution of a 30" cinema display. I have not tested this yet, as I have yet to upgrade my display, but will report how it performs when I do.

I see no degradation of image quality compared to direct connection. Installation was easy and required no software installation. Belkin makes software to enable software based swithcing between computers. Instead I just use the included "flip" dongle. It works well, allowing to stow the actual switch away. However I wish the flip switch was wireless.

Overall I am fairly happy with the switch. It would make a lot of sense if Belkin built a network switch into the KVM switch - it would save us another box. For big KVM swiches that might not make sense, but many people who use a two port switch between their laptop and desktop use it at their work desk where they have just one wall plug for ethernet.

Digital camera Review: Works, Simple, Cheap - Whats not to like?
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm using the Belkin Flip to switch between a Dell 3007 30" LCD display connected to a MacMini and a MacBook Pro.

Its simple, works perfectly, what else is there to say?

Digital camera Review: Would buy another
Summary: 5 Stars

I needed to share a large 1920x1200 monitor, keyboard and mouse between a Mac and PC laptop. After using the flip for a few weeks I like the following:
* Comes with the additional cabling required.
* Easy to hide the box that interconnects the cables - all that is seen is the little round switch.
* Easy to tell which cables go with which switch position since they are color coded.
* No software required on either Mac or PC to make it work if you don't want to use keyboard switching.
* Monitor display quality is unaffected as far as I can tell.
* It has not caused any crashes or hangs on either computer.

Issues - none that were not self inflicted. Being a Mac user I did not bother reading the instructions at first and there is an important power on sequence for the PC to get it to recognize and use the monitor. Once I followed the instructions all was well and the switch has worked well since. There is a short delay after switching before the mouse and keyboard work on the PC but I don't think this is an issue with the Flip.

Digital camera Review: YMMV
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this KVM for my home office, where I have a Windows PC and a MacBook Pro. I haven't nailed down the exact steps to reproduce the problem, and this may be specific to my setup, but a couple times a week the KVM is unable to switch the keyboard and mouse over to the PC. I have to unplug the keyboard from the KVM and plug it directly into the PC, and I usually have to power-cycle the KVM.
When it works, it works well. The video is indistinguishable from direct connection. I really like the concept and the form factor. I just wish it was a little more consistent.

Digital camera Review: fussy setup, but works very well
Summary: 5 Stars

The setup for the Flip was sort of fussy - you must plug in both the mouse and keyboard directly to the Flip (just as the instructions say!). Once working it has been very smooth, both with the remote button and the onscreen menu for Mac OS X.
