Digital camera reviews of Belkin Flip DVI-D KVM Switch with Remote F1DG102DDigital camera Review: Really kind of crappy... Summary: 2 Stars
I never had very good luck with this product. My setup was a PC Desktop as the main computer, and a Mac laptop as a secondary. Monitor quality was decent, but there was constant digital noise on both computers including complete loss of signal. Basically, it's completely unusable and I'm really upset that I accidentally threw out the packaging, so there was no way to even return it for a refund... Oh well...
Digital camera Review: Received two bad units and stopped trying. STAY AWAY. Summary: 1 Stars
I read all the reviews ( like you ), saw all the bad stuff but looked at the average which was fairly high. I went through two of these and BOTH of them had the same problem, the long video cable corrupted the data leaving different forms of lines and blackouts on the screen. Now I am a software engineer who started out in hardware so yes I tried the long cable on both a laptop and a desktop working with TWO DIFFERENT units with the same results. I also tried reseating the digital cable connection at the back of the KVM as well as different cables between the KVM and monitor with no improvement. The short cable worked fine on both computers and both units. I suspect they either have a serious design or manufacturing flaw. Between shipping and diagnosing this was a huge waste of time for me. I assume now that BELKIN'S QA department consists of a guy making sure it gets in the box ok. Or maybe they hit Christmas season and decided to ship bad units anyway. Amazon was awesome as it relates to the return, so I first and foremost blame the vendor and as always appreciate the quality that Amazon strives for. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT>
Digital camera Review: Started out OK but died in 3 months Summary: 1 Stars
[UPDATE] The unit died. Just like that. Lasted all of 3 months. Oh well.
Factor this into my previous review comments from June.
I bought this switch to switch between my Macbook and Quad Core PC in my
dual-monitor desktop setup. I'm actually ONLY using the monitor switching
part of it - this is because I want to switch my keyboard separately - sometimes
I just need to see what the Mac is up to, without a need to type - so often the
KB is on the PC while I'm viewing the Mac monitor output. Same with the mouse -
I don't switch the mouse at all, rather I have a separate mouse on the Mac at
all times, next to the PC mouse. Audio switches on yet another separate switch
unit - this way, I can pick and choose what device is active to my use. Never
had any switching glitches at all with the Belkin - the nice little circular
button just does its job day in and day out. Great unit for my application.
Digital camera Review: Thumbs up! Summary: 5 Stars
If your looking for an easy solution for sharing two computers with one mouse + keyboard on an apple 30" cinema display then this is for you! Works great with full resolution.. Now I'm only one click away from switching back and forth on two systems.. Thanks Belkin
Digital camera Review: Unreliable, does not work as advertised Summary: 1 Stars
Connected to Dell laptop docking station and Dell workstation with nvidia 9800 gfx through to Dell 27" monitor, all running at 1920x1200.
Regularly (more than daily) loses sync to workstation, resulting in need for hard reset of workstation since there's no way to see the workstation display. Workaround is to connect 2nd DVI cable from workstation to monitor and run in clone mode, although sync is still lost through flip - requiring frigging around with monitor inputs and nvidia control panel to reinstate display cloning. Flip will also often (a few times a week) lock and fail to switch between inputs, or not sync correctly and introduce noise into display image - bother issues requiring power to be removed to reset the device.
Updating to latest nvidia drivers made problem worse - display now drops out continuously. And it's not just one bad unit - we have the same problem on 10 machines in our office. Perhaps the Flip works OK with some combinations of monitors and gfx cards, but not for us. Reading reviews (after purchasing a dozen units - d'oh) shows many users are experiencing similar issues.
