Digital camera reviews of Belkin Flip DVI-D KVM Switch with Remote F1DG102D

Digital camera Review: Great for switching keyboard/mice, poor for high-resolution video
Summary: 1 Stars

Great concept, great product design, but poor technical execution. This device will work for most people, but I use it with a 30" monitor at 2560x1600 resolution and there's an incredible amount of noise on the screen with PCs. I've tried it with four flavors of PC video cards (nVidia an ATI) and they all exhibit the same noise problem. Coincidentally, the noise problem is not as prevalent when the KVM is switched to my MacBook Pro. I returned one to get another just-as-defective unit. I would advise against this if you intend to switch at 2560x1600 resolution.

Digital camera Review: Great when it worked, but didn't last long.
Summary: 2 Stars

This device worked great for about two months, then the video on one side of the switch began to go out. The video output was interlaced with hundreds of vertical red pinstripes, and many of the colors were distorted so as to make movies unwatchable. I will probably send the unit back to the manufacturer, if the warranty is still in effect. But, I'm not sure I want to have it replaced with another of these -- it just doesn't seem to be that robust. At the moment, I'm only using the audio and USB part of the switch, and have the video from each computer plugged into different ports of my monitor, with a DVI-VGA adapter attached to one of the video cables. My recommendation for anyone looking for something like this is to consider another type of device. Belkin makes other KVMs; perhaps another model would be more reliable.

Digital camera Review: Good product!
Summary: 5 Stars

Good product. Works very well with my workstation and laptop docking station. I use a wireless mouse and I have not encountered any issues. Will recommend to anyone and everyone.

Digital camera Review: Works great... most of the time
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this so I could share my LCD monitor between my main workstation/gaming PC and my XBox 360. Previously, I had been swapping the plugs back and forth on the back of the monitor, but that was a huge hassle. Bonus: the XBox recognizes the keyboard for text entry, which is useful. Note that this requires one of the newer XBox models that have an HDMI connector, and an HDMI to DVI-D female adapter.

So far, it works great. Since it's a digital signal there is no image degradation, like you often get with an analog KVM. The only problem I've had is that sometimes, after a session of gaming on my 360, when I switch back to the PC, the monitor will not pick up the signal from the video card. Switching back and forth does nothing. I have to power-cycle the KVM switch to get it working again (unplug and re-plug the power supply line). I suspect it's a signal synchronization issue, and it's possible there's a workaround to keep it from happening, but I haven't figured it out yet.

Digital camera Review: Works well despite previous negative reviews
Summary: 4 Stars

Wanted to share a huge 30" 2560x1600 monitor requiring a div-d interface supporting 2560x1600 between a Mcacintosh pro and a home-grown pc running Vista (64 bit) with an invidea 8600 graphics card. Everything worked great except the remote switch which did not work at all. Keyboard software worked fine.
