Digital camera reviews of Belkin TuneTalk Stereo for iPod 5G, 5.5G (Black)Digital camera Review: Extremely helpful gadget! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product to use with my 3rd gen iPod nano. Before buying it, I researched a lot of digital recorders. I listened to side-by-side comparisons, looked at prices and read more reviews than I'm comfortable admitting.
I am a professional musician, and I was looking for an extremely lightweight, super-cheap alternative to DigiDesign and Tascam products. I did not need to duplicate the professional recording equipment I already have. I merely wanted something I could toss in my gig bag and bring to a live show or rehearsal to record a few songs and then email them as mp3s to my band or to other musicians I collaborate with. I also wanted to be able to record random songs whenever I heard them (or thought them up).
In all these aspects, this little number performs beautifully. I would never use it for CD-quality recording. I wouldn't use it for two hours' worth of music (because it does tend to eat up battery life). But it's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a dedicated digital recorder (especially if you've already got that kind of equipment at home). And it's really, really tiny, so you can carry it with you anywhere.
There's no speaker, so you have to listen to playback using your earbuds, but so what? The stand is a piece of garbage, but I just lay my nano on a table and it works fine. And again, it eats battery life, so you won't get more than an hour's worth of music, if that. But for my needs, it's perfect.
Hope this helps.
Digital camera Review: Fantastic product, but hard drive sounds are audible Summary: 4 Stars
Hello,
I wanted a digital voice recorder to record school lectures. However, I did not want to buy another doohickey to carry around and the prices on decent recorders were a bit high.
I have an 80g Video 5G Ipod and noticed some good reviews of the Belkin Tunetalk product and decided to give it a try. The thing could not be easier to use. I took it out of the package, plugged it into the Ipod and it automatically launched the voice recording menu. All I had to do was touch the center button and it was off and recording. Hit the button again and it pauses. Select "Stop and save" and it does its thing.
The autogain feature works very well as lecturers move around the room. The sound is crisp and clear on low quality and I don't miss a word. The only downside to the device is that it will pick up sounds from the hard drive during recording. Every so often, a few seconds of tapping can be heard. The tapping isn't as loud as the noise a particularly annoying classmate takes as she bangs on her laptop keyboard during lecture, but it is noticeable. If drive-noise free recording is desired, I would think an external microphone would take care of the issue nicely. I may explore this if I use it to record music.
After recording, just sync the Ipod to your computer and you've got your lectures in your music library. I use the Itunes "Get Info" option to categorize the recordings by class, professor, or specific lecture material. I take the additional step of converting the wav files to mp3 and then re-syncing them, but this is no trouble at all.
My Ipod is going on two years old, but I still get good recording time. I get around 2 and a half hours of recording on low quality before the battery indicator goes red. If I ever do run out of battery before I run out of drive space, the Tunetalk has a power port to allow further recording if you have or are near a power source.
I am very happy with this product and highly recommend it.
Digital camera Review: GREAT RODUCT!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I am a reporter for my local newspaper, being only 15, it was sometimes hard to get all of the information that I needed when I interviewed my clients. I recently started my own feature story and I NEEDED it to be recorded to make the story be a hit. I got the recorder today and I love it. It has the purest quality. I was able to record probably about 6 foot away! I sat on my bed and you could even hear the creek of the bed when I sat on it. Amazing! Definitely worth the money!!
Digital camera Review: GREAT!!! Summary: 4 Stars
As a student at a top music conservatory, I use the 'TuneTalk Stereo' all the time!!! It's great for recording lessons, coachings, practice sessions, or actual recordings! The quality is very very good especially for the price and size! It fits perfectly into the bottom of my 80 gig iPod and is very easy to use! I definitely recommend this to anyone... especially music students!!!!
Digital camera Review: Garbage poorly made Summary: 1 Stars
Within 15 minutes of attaching the tune talk, while trying to adjust the gain the little plastic widget fell right out of the tune talk thingy. I can't comment on the use of the product since I promptly took it back for a refund. It is so shoddily made that while it might be a great product WHEN it works, I wouldn't spend $60 on something that fell apart in jsut 15 minutes. I am a 45 year old woman, not rough on electronics, so I can only imagine what a student would do to this thing.
