Digital camera reviews of Belkin TuneTalk Stereo for iPod 5G, 5.5G (Black)Digital camera Review: Good For Voice, Bad for Live Music Summary: 3 Stars
FYI: This microphone is for voice/lectures only, or line in recording such as from a stereo, its not for live music. Audio I recorded with it was often mildly distorted. Also, battery life is only an hour. So its not a good choice for bootleggers.
Digital camera Review: Good Performer Summary: 4 Stars
Product works pretty good - no complaints. You plug it in and your off and running. I have a silicone case on my G5 and the tunetalk fits great. I use it for recording music lessons with my instructor. I don't think I'd want to record any live performances as the internal mic is VERY sensative so you pick up everything even with the gain on low.
Digital camera Review: Good for music rehearsals Summary: 5 Stars
As an instrumental music teacher, it's important for me to have a quick and easy way of recording my ensemble rehearsals as well as my own personal practice from time to time. This microphone is compatible with my new (Spring 2009) IPod Nano; it just simply brings up a new option in the IPod's main menu. Actually, it comes with a connection cable making it possible to record straight onto my computer through a USB drive.
Although it's clearly not meant as a professional recording devise, the audio quality is well worth the $55 I spent on my unit. I use it with great success in a variety of rehearsals settings, including Jazz Band (18 piece), full symphony orchestra, and my own personal trumpet practice. I will be using it to record voice interviews for my thesis this winter, and I expect it to perform wonderfully in that context as well.
Again, this is a great microphone for informal recording purposes. Well worth the money.
Digital camera Review: Good form factor and product concept; poor performance Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this device to Podcast my classes for students. The form factor met my needs and I liked the idea of having stereo audio fidelity. Prior to buying the device I read reviews online that said that some devices had problems with audio "skipping", i.e. every few seconds the audio stops being recorded and then resumes again. This leads to very choppy, often unintelligible audio, for the listener. Reviews seemed to indicate this was a solvable problem through software updates, etc. On that basis I decided to buy this.
Unfortunately, I experienced the problem noted above. I did the recommended restore of my device and made sure that everything was updated to the latest software. The problem persists.
I emailed Belkin. The email response I received, which consisted of several misspelled words, nonsensical sentences, and other unprofessional elements, was of no help at all. I'm contacting them again in hopes that this problem can be solved. Take my advice--avoid this product. Maybe you'll have better results than I did, but do a bit of research. You're rolling the dice until this problem is resolved.
Digital camera Review: Good product Summary: 5 Stars
This is actually the second Tune Talk I have purchased. I work at a university and part of my job is developing online courses. Podcasting is making an increasing presence in online courses and we are always looking for ways to simplify the process while providing a quality product. Quality voice recording is a challenge and the Tune Talk addresses that challenge very well. The device mounts easily to the bottom of an iPod and immediately configures for recording. The process is simple and intuitive. The recording is saved to the iPod and can be later synchronized with iTunes. Recordings are down as high quality stereo wave files - which can later be edited and/or compressed. Recording quality is excellent. Very clear and free of the hiss one often hears with inexpensive recording devices. Many others on campus use the device as well and all seemed pleased with the result. The term "studio quality" sometimes slips into descriptions. Were this device used in a sound proof environment I would cautiously use studio quality to describe the results. Definitely worth the money.
