Digital camera reviews of Belkin USB 2.0 4-Port Hub, WhiteDigital camera Review: Beware if you use Windows XP SP3! Summary: 2 Stars
I was going nuts. I was using this on a desktop from 2007 that I had kept off the Internet for about two years. Now I wanted networking ability. The computer started installing a couple years of Windows updates. After it installed Service Pack 3, I lost my Belkin USB hub and my Belkin Wireless N connector. They wouldn't work with anything.
So I replaced the Wireless N connector with a similar Wireless N unit from another manufacturer. Voila. I'm back on the Net.
After Googling around, Belkin devices seem to have problems with XP Service Pack 3, which they have never taken the time to correct. Other manufacturers have no such problems. For example, my D-Link DWA-125 150Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter has no problems connecting to our office network.
So, if you use Windows XP and have Service Pack 3 installed, DON'T buy Belkin products. And shame on them for not publicly declaring that they have elected not to support SP3!
Digital camera Review: Bottom to Top Great Hub Summary: 5 Stars
Some hub ports are so close together that if the profile is large such as a wireless usb device then you have taken another port usage.
Not so with this hub . There is enough room especially on top to handle large profile devices.
Digital camera Review: Defective Product - cant make lemonade outa this lemon Summary: 1 Stars
From the reviews seen here it sounded like a good product and knowing belkin I was hoping it was built with somewhat decent quality.
When I got mine in it looked fine apart from the white housing part is slightly askew (tried pushing it together to see if it was just loose but seems it is permanently off).
When following all the instructions to the letter i was wondering why it wasnt working. I was testing this on my iMAC 21.5inch intel(snow leopard)and what happens is that it gives me this error saying its drawing too much power. HOW CAN THIS BE WHEN ITS SUPPOSED TO BE POWERING ITSELF WITH THE POWER CABLE?
Well after looking it over I realized that the power port on the back of the hub itself is made poorly or well must've been a monday batch since the power cable does NOT fit snugly or well enough into the port so that it actually powers the unit. The thing just goes in and any minute movement will jostle the cord and make it slip out or not sit straight in the port. Maybe the power port is just not functioning but oh well.
Later I tried to salvage the situation by using just the hub without the power cable to at least function as a simple usb dock to power thumbdrives and keyboard to free up space on the imac. Lo and behold the thing STILL gave me the error with usb device is drawing too much power! I only had a keyboard attached to it and I even plugged the keyboard into the USB to test if the problem was the keyboard but it worked fine. Seems this belkin was just a POS.
I expected more from belkin but I guess someones gotta get the lemons once in awhile. Too bad this thing is only 15$ and probably not worth shipping all the way back from Hawaii for a refund.
Next time i think ill just buy one of these from a brick and mortar shop so i can easily return it if i get another lemon.
Digital camera Review: Doesn't work Summary: 1 Stars
It doesn't run my external HD, Charge my cell phone, or really anything but connect a flash drive. Terrible product IMHO.
Digital camera Review: Doesn't work with certain devices Summary: 2 Stars
I've had this product for a few weeks now and am finding it doesn't work with many devices, namely my ipod touch and canon rebel. It does work ok for the WD external drive and canon i860 printer. I'm on an '09 iMac.
It does free up enough ports for me to connect these other devices directly to the computer, but I'm pretty disappointed that it doesn't work as designed.
