Digital camera reviews of Belkin USB 2.0& Firewire 6-Port Hub For Mac MiniDigital camera Review: Love the Look... But Not Functional Summary: 1 StarsI own a mac mini and this seemed to be the ideal hub, but after trying it for a week it does not have enough power to my 2 external hard drives powered, they kept disconnecting. Had to return it and am using a tiny portable $10 USB hub that works great. Too bad because I really liked the neat design of this hub.
Digital camera Review: Belkin USB hub for Mac Mini Summary: 5 StarsA" must have" item for all mini owners. Gives you 4 USB ports and an extra Firewire port on the front of the hub where you can get to it. As usual Belkin comes through for the Mac community.
Digital camera Review: Works great on my old Mini Summary: 4 StarsBoy, what a godsend... works a treat on my old Mac mini. Without its own power source whatsoever, it controls my: mouse, keyboard, printer/scanner, a 8x8 Midi controller, a 1T time machine, a Presonus R-BUS/Firewire interface (V-FIRE) and iPod video.
The only problem I had was with my setup - I had my Mac shutdown after four or five hours of inactivity and I found this played havoc with the firewire devices attached to the hub (it basically auto-ejected them) whenever I wanted to use the machine again later. So I changed that to 'never' and it has behaved since.
Device has to be connected to your Mac mini via both the USB and Firewire short cables provided. All USBs run at 2.0 by the looks of it. Sweet!
Digital camera Review: Reliable...for the most part Summary: 3 StarsFirst bought this when I got my iMac. It has been okay, but I like my self powering USB port much better. On the reliability scale between 1-5, it is about a 4. I do like that it has firewire, but if I had to do it over again, I'd purchase a separate firewire port.
Digital camera Review: GET RID OF THE CABLES!!!!!! Summary: 4 StarsI purchased this product from a vendor on Ebay based on some of the reviews from people on Amazon. And to some extent the people who said that they could not get this device to work on their Mac Mini's and other Mac's are right. I had the same problem! I was getting ready to throw it out the window until a friend of mine suggested that I change the cable (USB 2.0) forget Firewire. Lo and behold it works!!! As for the customer service part of Belkin, don't waste your time, they are TOTALLY USELESS!!!!! They kept giving me the run around. The ironic part of this is that the cable that I used was from my Nikon digital camera. So in short, get rid of the cables that came with this product and it will work as advertised.
