Digital camera Review: Excellent product for USB-hungry needs at a good price with compact design

This small package 7 port USB 2.0 hub is excellent in design and use. It is priced very attractively on Amazon. I had concerns when I reviewed a previous review that indicated shortcomings including "not all 7 ports are USB 2.0" and "plugging in a USB 1.0 device slows down all devices plugged into the hub." I corresponded with Belkin before purchase and they indicated that all 7 ports were USB 2.0 capable, and that individual USB 1.0 devices plugged into the hub did not effect the performance of other devices plugged into the hub. [Reading through the web literature, it is possible that earlier versions of some USB 2.0 hubs -- maybe even this one -- had such technical limitations.] My short-term experience with this device is that it works as indicated. This is a great hub but it took some time to get working initially. The USB connection on the hub that you plug the mini-usb plug in had a loose connection. I was so frustrated initially because nothing worked! After I hit it a few times and messed with the USB plug it started working. I believe the mini-USB jack is bent and I will probably return this item and get a new one. After running out of open USB ports on my PC, I decided to purchase this hub and have had a lot of success with it. It was easy to setup and Windows Vista installed the necessary drivers automatically for me. Everything I've plugged into the port, from a web camera to a printer, has worked on the first try without any trouble. The hub is small and fits easily behind a monitor on our desk. The constant indication lights are enough for me, since I'm only really concerned about whether or not a peripheral is correctly plugged into its port and not if it's currently active. They are somewhat muted and a vast improvement over some of the bright, blue blinking lights on other hubs.
Though I didn't notice it before, swapping USB dependant gadgets can become a real chore. The addition of a hub has made synchronizing MP3 players, video chatting and printing a whole lot easier. The Belkin USB 2.0 Plus Hub is a great product and one I'd recommend to anyone looking for a hub.

After doing a lot of research on USB hubs I settled on this one (but with the dark finish). I am running a Macbook Pro ver. 10.5.7. I have been using it 24/7 with an external hard drive, mouse, usb audio controllers, pin drives, etc. and it has worked flawlessly. The cable bundler is convenient. You might have minor stationary problems as the unit is not very heavy. Its wide footprint helps make up for it. I am a audio producer and it is very important for all my equipment to run safely and smoothly throughout the creative process. This USB hub has allowed me to do that with confidence. You would think that in 2010, even the cheapo USB hubs would be pretty decent. Not so. But this review is not about my old crappy hub. This is about my new, awesome belkin hub. I have about 5 constantly connected devices to this hub and all of them are available all the time. I frequently attach and detach a laptop to the hub and regardless all the devices hotswap like they should and everything runs like a champ. The added convenience and ease that the two additional upright ports give this device are what put it over the top for a great device. Two thumbs up for Belkin, except for their pricing. I got this for about half retail by buying from an amazon marketplace seller. It pays to shop around, but you won't be unhappy with the quality, even if you pay full price.
