Digital camera reviews of Belkin n52te Tournament Edition SpeedPad

Digital camera Review: Belkin n53te
Summary: 5 Stars

Great item, it improved my gaming aibility 10 fold. I am very pleased with the simple set up, ease of use and quality! Well worth the cost to improve the agility and speed my "toon" accomplishes in PVP. I now top the list in damage done on our battlegrounds. Thanks to my gaming partner for finding it for me too!! I think he just wanted a better "wing man"

Digital camera Review: Belkins Backward Blunder
Summary: 1 Stars

I won't bore you with a lengthy review of why this replacement for the N52 blows major chunks. I can see a lot of the points had been covered already in reviews. I bought this because I figured it would be just as good as the N52 -- it isn't! Belkin actually went completely backwards in the device and software design for the n52te. If you need a game pad, check on ebay for a new N52, that's what I'm doing.

Please, don't buy this, you won't like it even if you never had the older N52 before.

The thumb space bar key requires too much travel to use and you have to press it in the center exactly, unlike the older N52. Belkin what were you thinking!

Digital camera Review: Best gamer tool ever !
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this a year ago, from a friend who told me i should have this. Since i had it, this little toy just perfected my gaming time ! :D the hardware is very comfortable, you have awesome macros and customization on this.

Logitech version suck like hell. But Belkin Nostromo rules !!

I bought two of those also for my friend birthdays:D I also configured it with the game Civilization IV. It was the best thing ever in my couch to play with this awesome product. I hope in the future Belkin with continue to surprise me !

Digital camera Review: Best thing since......the crappy keyboard I used before...
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first saw this on Amazon I thought that looks cool and since I hate using a normal keyboard this might me awesome....but the reviews ah the reviews, some good and some very very bad. And not just I hate it cuz I suck a games kinda bad reviews. But well thought out bad reviews.

Anyway it looked to pretty and nice for me to pass up, the blue back light calling to me,
and I couldn't help myself and I took the chance and blindly bought it, like a good consumer, pulled it out of the box and plugged her in. Now I understand why it was calling to me in such a way, this thing is friggin awesome, I never used the old n52 so I can not speak to that. But this is wonderful, I'm not sure why I was so skeptical, all the bad reviews are wrong IMO.

Quality: does not lack, it's solid doesn't feel too plasticy or anything. The USB looks to be gold plated (it's so choice)

Layout: Almost perfect.......it's like they used @sssss for a spacebar, I mean come on, you have to hit right on the number and hard or it doesn't go down. D-pad/stick thing, very nice, it works well.

Comfort: The designer must have had hands just like mine, but with really long triple jointed thumbs to hit that spacebar. Over all it feels nice and is great for extended play.

The look: don't get me started, please it's beautiful,

It comes with some neat software for 3 different key configurations, and 3 is enough for me, oh and macros too, over all it's good stuff.

-1 Star for the space (rolls eyes on how bad it is)
6 Stars for everything else. (and being a sexy piece of hardware)
= A 5 Star product.

Totally worth the money, as my first gaming keyboard, oh and I use a Razer DeathAdder it lights up blue too and Destructor gaming mat.

********Edit 11/06/09, after 2 months of solid use*********

Still no problems, it just keeps on getting better, and now I can't even use a regular keyboard, because I'm just so in love with the n52te. I have sort of halfassed gotten use to the space bar. The programmable keysets and software work nice, I couldn't be happier.

My only real complaint is the nice black soft finish on the wrist rest is warring a little so it doesn't look `new' anymore, but this does not inhibit game play.

Digital camera Review: Better than everything else
Summary: 4 Stars

I am a veteran of computer gamepads, having tried Saitek Cyborg Command Unit and Logitech G13, even oldies but goodies such as the Thrusmaster Tactical Board. I play mostly real time strategy games such as the Total War series and Civ-IV. The n52te, even with several poor choices made in updating it from n52, is still the best choice out there for a game pad in my estimation.
The Bad (in hopes that someone in power will read this and get it right next time):
1. Clunky Software: Someone should tell Razer they do not know **** about what makes a good programming interface for a game pad. The old Belkin software for the n52 (before Razer introduced its mouse software) was much better. Nonetheless, you can get what you want done with the Razer software, even if takes longer than it should.
2. Fewer Shift States: Razer in its wisdom decided that eliminating the default shift state (or one of the four shift states) from the old n52 would not be missed. Bad idea. Eliminating 25% of the button options is not a good upgrade.
3. Faulty thumb bar: The thumb button/space bar (button15) is unreliable on the n52te - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You cannot assign anything important to it. At least this is not an essential button (unlike the faulty thumb control and sometimes other buttons on the Saitek Cyborg Command Unit).
The Good (these features are keepers):
1: Periscoping thumb control: The new n52te comes with an optional extension of the thumb d-pad control, to give it a more joy stick feel. I don't know if this was by design, but the optional extension can actually be pulled out only partially to rest sturdily at a quarter of an inch over the d-pad to give it even more leverage. This extension competes very well with the Saitek and Logitech thumb-joystick gamepad designs, and still allows the pure d-pad aficionado to dispense with it.
2: Good layout: The keys are not too many and easy to reach and locate by touch without making mistakes (unlike the Logitech G13). Another row of buttons above or off to the side somewhere (e.g., Saitek Cyborg Command Unit) might not hurt, but more buttons are not really that useful when you want to concentrate on the screen not your fingers.
3. Sturdy and Reliable: Aside from the thumb button, this pad works reliably with repeated use over a year in my experience.
4. Not a big thing, but the new soft-touch wrist pad is slightly more comfortable than the old n52 plastic design.
