They looked pretty cool, they were heavy and sturdy, and the sound was OK (nothing marvelous, but OK). I enjoyed them for a week... Until they stopped working, unless I used them with my headphones. But why would I want computer speakers that only work with headphones on, if I simply can connect those headphones directly into my computer?

Short story, I returned them.
I think they're having trouble with their Quality Control.
Sadly, everything Made in China is like that: sometimes you're lucky and end up with something lasting for ages, and sometimes you're not lucky and end up with something that last 3 days.
This time the second happened to me.
Well, apart from having our jobs outsourced, the imported stuff we're buying ain't the national stuff we used to buy, and that applies to everything, from clothing to electronics, and sorry to say... even to Bose speakers.
Pity.

Poor sound quality:
Today I assembled the speakers and played a Netflix show on my computer. My first reaction was a cringe; I was confused and disgusted. I looked in the manual for an explanation thinking I was wrong to assume that the system was as easy as plugging in three cables. Unfortunately, the speakers really sound that bad. I own a macbook air so I have been using a pair of high quality ear buds (Shures 210 SE) to make up for the built-in mono speaker. I am not sure if I am spoiled by my ear buds, but I am certain that the Bose muddle the voices of the actors in my show. I am sorely disappointed with these speakers. I know these are the cheapest Bose speakers out there, but with a $100 price tag I thought it would at least put out a clear sound at low volumes. These speakers most certainly do not produce a clear sound.
Portability:
I bought these speakers for its portability. I compromised between size and sound quality. The speakers are large enough that they are not convenient to carry around--though manageable. However, I thought I would receive better sound quality, so I justified purchasing a moderately larger set of speakers. The size of these speakers are not justified by its sound. Ironically enough, the more expensive Bose speakers have smaller speakers and produce a clearer sound. I understand that the more expensive models include a separate bass, but if you can produce a clearer sound with smaller speakers, I would prefer that without a bass. I don't know who buys 2.0 speakers as opposed to 2.1 (bass included via .1) thinking it will provide adequate bass--I didn't. For the sound that you get from these speakers they are not portable by any means.
Summation:
These speakers may provide a better sound quality than your laptop, but they lack the quality that a pair of $100 speakers should provide. The sound is muddled and unimpressive. I would not recommend these speakers.

We first bought these speakers to hook up to our Mac laptop in the RV park at Picachco Peak,AZ (email me for that story) and let me tell you this is the best $100 we ever spent.!! We have since transported the speakers to OCCA (California-ya see) and hooked them into the earphone jack in the Sanyo tv and, yet again. we hear stuff on the tv we just don't hear without the Bose. I'm actually buying a second set for my vacation home.
If you're looking quality sound buy them!!

Definitely live up to the Bose name and for $100 are an amazing value.
I have owned these for almost 2 years and absolutely love them.
