Digital camera reviews of Bose Companion 2 Series II multimedia speaker systemDigital camera Review: Just great! Summary: 5 StarsOMG, these are fantastic speakers! Like going to a concert hall, really.
They crank it out, and rattle your bones.
You'd be crazy NOT to buy these.
Digital camera Review: Great sound and an inexpensive solution for what was needed Summary: 5 StarsI bought these amplified speakers so that I could hook them up to my new flat screen TV and get improved listening sound and volume over the tiny speakers that are built into the TV itself. Home theater systems are expensive and the room is fairly small.
The newer TV's do not come with traditional RCA-style analog outputs. So, I needed to work around this shortcoming. First, I purchased a Gefen digital-to-analog optical signal converter (see my review) and connected that to my TV's optical "out" port. Then, I simply plugged these amplified speakers into the RCA outputs of the Gefen converter and Viola! I get good clean sound projecting outward and slightly upward instead of a somewhat muddy sound from underneath the edge of the TV.
Granted, the volume on these speakers has to be manually controlled with the knob but they are nice and small, powerful, clear and rich-sounding for my purposes and for my expectations. I am not an audiophile and I did not want the expense and hassle of a home theater system, especially in a relatively small room.
Now, I can clearly hear when the actors are speaking softly in a scene without having to constantly adjust the volume up and down when the louder action scenes occur. For only $99, they're a terrific complement to my TV.
Digital camera Review: Great sound. Best tabletop speakers for ipod Summary: 5 StarsThis speaker sounds great. This is the best alternative for Bose SoundDock for ipods. I agree that this is expensive when compared to other 2.1 speakers from other brands. I am happy with its performance. Listen to some guitar songs with this speaker and you will definitely like it. Off course everyone has their own opinions. This is my opinion.
Digital camera Review: terrible Summary: 1 StarsI bought and returned these speakers immediately. They have no range! Notice that under "technical specifications" -- on amazon, on the bose website - anywhere! -- there is no info on the frequency response!! They must really want to keep this info hidden because it's terrible; it's very standard to know what you are paying for to find out what the frequency response (Hz) is. I bought them anyway, without knowing, and learned why I couldn't find this info. I just took it for granted since bose is such a respected brand, and they are not the cheapest. So I started comparing Hz (after talking to a sound geek that I know) and got the Creative Gigaworks T20s which cost the same as these bose and are much better with separate bass and tweeter too.
Digital camera Review: I love them, and so do all my friends... a simple matter of taste Summary: 4 StarsFor what these speakers deliver, they are quite a good value, and everyone who has heard them
at my house is really impressed. That being said, I have no problem with reviews that suggest that
these speakers are not to their taste. If you are someone who is looking for a gut-thumping low end punch,
these speakers are not for you. If you are someone looking for a relatively high fidelity computer
monitor stereo setup for $100, and the dynamic (volume) range does not need to be max'ed out...
these work really well for both audio and video support.
These are computer monitors, not home stereo speakers; if you want real home stereo, spend the dough.
We use our iMac for all our media, and these Bose Companion 2's just plain work for us: above average
Bose-style monitor audio quality, and all for a C-note. .
My only negative comment is: If you really try to max out the volume levels, these speakers
have a built-in dynamic compressor which will cause a noticeable throbbing effect ( I actually called up
Bose and confirmed this compression thing) at high volumes which I find unacceptable. So if I want to crank
volumes up, I find that I need to go up to, say, 80% of maximum possible volume , and no higher.
Other than that, they have a really pleasing sound quality, to my ears. For $100, it's a nice deal.
