Digital camera reviews of Bose Companion 3 Series II multimedia speaker system (Graphite/Silver)

Digital camera Review: Bose Companion 3, great system for apartment and iPod
Summary: 5 Stars

I just got my Bose Companion 3 Series II speakers and so far so good. I did all the leg work shopped around and listened to different speaker systems. While there are some decent ones out there for a little less money, I settled for the Bose Companion 3.

I live in a high-rise apartment, so getting a high-end amplifier and speakers just means that they would hardly ever be used to their full potential, unless I wanted to have very upset neighbors. Most of my music is now in my iPod and laptop and I needed a way to set it free throughout the house while respecting my neighbors. The Bose speakers are just perfect, I was between the Companion 3 and Companion 5, I finally settled for the Companion 3, given that the 5's added features (Surround sound 5.1 emulation) were really intended for movies, I don't watch many movies on my laptop (about 2 per year) so it seemed like it was not worth spending the extra $150 for me. When it comes to listening to MP3/ACC music I really can't tell the difference between the Companion 3 and 5, so the choice was clear for me the 3.

I have not had any static issues or anything similar with my speakers, they were very easy to setup and I was up and running in about 3 minutes. The control pod/puck is pretty cool also. It does not feel cheap, but rather sturdy and high-end.

So if you live in an apartment and your music is in your iPod and or Laptop, spend a little extra and spoil yourself a little with these speakers, you will not regret it.

Digital camera Review: Bose doesn't dissappoint!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This system is amazing! That's all I can say, it is admittedly my first Bose sound system but it is the best by far of any system I have ever had. Even thought this is not as expensive as the $400 version it keeps right up with it! (my roomate has the other version). The sound quality is amazing even when the thing us at full volume, there is no sheering or screeching. I had to turn the base down because it shakes the floor even at half volume! The only criticism I have is it is not a USB connector, but a standard speaker connector. Even so this thing is a beast and the great thing about the standard connector connects to my iPhone. So if you are looking for great Bose sound with high quality steel speaker boxes without completely breaking the bank look no further!!

Digital camera Review: Bose is the best

Beautiful music reproduction. Delivers just as promised, I don't know how it could be any better.

I've had other speaker systems in the past but none came close this product. I recommend it totally if your pocket book can afford it.

Digital camera Review: Bose or Bust
Summary: 5 Stars

I serve in the army and since I am single I live in the barracks on post. I am also an audiophile and it incredibly hard to find a speaker system that meets two requirements of a soldier:
1 it must sound good,
2 it cant take up a lot of space.

I got the Companion 3 system because they have an incredibly small footprint and reproduce sound at near studio quality. My own personal demons brought me to test these speakers myself through various means, and i have found them to be faithful in reproducing 20hz through to 18khz, (I don't have anything I can test above that with directly). I have read a few of the other reviews and have to point some things out to prospective buyers;

these speakers are not designed for a living room, outdoors, or large area. They are made for a small space, much like an appartment or office. The cones in the satelites and the woofer do not have the surface area to move air in a room much larger than 125sq ft. The smaller space these speakers are in the better they will sound. Alsothe quality of the audio processor/ device plays a big part on the quality of sound you will experience with any speaker system. If your audio processor cannot faithfully reproduce an audio signal, then that is another issue.

All in all, I will say these are great speakers and if you have it, they are worth the money you'll be set back getting them. But i will say this, if the location you wish to set these up has an area greater than 125sq. ft, get something bigger.

I bought this 2.1 set to use on my 42" panasonic TH-PZ700U. So, if you will be using these on your computer, this - for the most part - will not relate to you. First off, let me tell you how I had them connected.

Setup.
Companion 3s connected via "control puck" to audio out panel on the back of my tv using an auxiliary to RCA audio (red & white ends) cable.

The Good.
These speakers are sexy. These speakers have tiny footprints so they don't take up any space on my TV stand.
The subwoofer has better bass than my TV. Enough said.

Problems.
These do not get very loud. I had these cranked all the way up and my tv at 65% of it's max output is still louder than these.
Voices are not clear. Maybe this is not true of all movies, but when I was watching "300" via blu-ray with these speakers, it almost sounded like there was a thin pillow in between the person speaking and the microphone recording them... sounded very "muddy". If there were equalizer settings on the back of the sub, it would solve this problem. Maybe I could have somehow tied the tv settings for sound adjustment (bass, treble, surround, etc.) to these speakers, but I do not know how to.
Did not hear any sort of two-channel separation. Maybe it is there, but I could usually tell (The Bose demos are lying to your ears!).

Solution.
I returned these back to Fry's. I instead bought the bigger, uglier Logitech 2300 speaker system. The sub almost seems twice as big... the two speakers are at least double the size of the bose speakers (without the stands)... but they sound 10x better. The bass is louder/crisper and doesn't drown out the voices which come out crystal clear. I actually hear separation between these two channels. Lastly, these speakers are LOUD! I love 'em! The only bad thing is that this speaker system looks no where near as sexy as the bose companion 3s.

Words of advice... I bought the companion 3s after already having read that the logitech 2300s are much better... I bought the companion 3s because they were aesthetically much more pleasing to me... and they still are much sexier than my current logitech 2300s... but, listening to the companion 3s and their tinny sounds could not justify how sexy these look. maybe the companion 5 would solve my aesthetic and auditory needs... but at the expense of $250, I would rather stick with my 2300s.
