Digital camera Review: Can't Ship These Back Soon Enough! Summary: 1 Stars
These speakers sounded great in the Bose show room but they sure were a disappointment at home! I purchased them to replace a $250 set of Altec Lansing's that were zapped by a power surge, viewing it as a chance to upgrade a bit from what I had. After 10 days, I couldn't take it anymore. All of my music sounded like it was coming from inside a tunnel. The sound stage was completely off and it didn't matter what type of music I played. It got to where they were annoying me so much, I turned off the sound for the last couple of days. THESE SPEAKERS ARE A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! Anyhow, I shipped them back today (not soon enough!) and replaced them with a set of Klipsch ProMedia THX 2.1 speakers for 1/3 of the price. Wish I would have purchased the Klipsch speakers first because they sound great!! I suspect the folks rating these speakers so highly are doing what I tried to do for a week...convince yourself that they actually sound good because any computer speakers costing this much have to sound good, right? WRONG!
Digital camera Review: Cool sleek speakers sounds great Summary: 5 Stars
I went to shop to buy C3, but I bought these becoz they have surround technology and sounded better than C3 on the demo, of course $150 more than C3.
These speakers sounds great, most of the time I listen to music. Initially when I started listening music on these speakers I noticed that I am listening/realizing new notes, which I did not realize before I buy these speakers. So, I love these speakers. My room is small 13 X 13 and these are working great for me. Just to test I tried in my hall 24 X 12, I am verymuch satisfied.
Most of the time I can play only at 40% of the volume. Some times I use 70 - 80% of the volume and they rock, no hiss, no rattle, simply crisp and clean. I can not play @ 80% volume for a longer time becoz I noticed apartment walls are already vibrating, I don't want my neighbor complain, I live in an apartment.
They look great on my desk, they sound great to my ears and they are filling my room. What else I need? I may get some other speakers for less but I bet they doesn't beat Boss in look.
The only downside I can think of is, price $399. I am sure had these speakers priced for $250, most of the people would have like them. But guys realize, you are paying more for it's design as well. Other than that no -ve.
Digital camera Review: Decent Hardware; However for Vista the software is poor Summary: 3 Stars
First this set of speakers is good from the hardware side of the question. The sound that they create is quite good provided that they can get the data in a proper timely manner. However, the software appears not to respond to a Vista issues. The USB driver that comes with them will probably give one good sound on an XP computer system; I have only used them on Vista. On Vista, they need to fix the garbling of the sound that is produced in Vista and allow for more variation and control on the sound.
It appears to be the same problem I had with sound blaster audigy and Vista. I finaly ended buying the SB X-FI card and software which solves certain Vista issues. Also, on a system that is overloaded with Vista adding another load to the USB port will cause problems in sound reproduction. Yes, the 2.0 USB has the theoretical bandwidth but the computer needs to deliver the data to the USB output. You can actually hear the load on the computer processor. In the case of Vista I would keep to the old analog signal delivery. I would also make the software closer to what is delivered with a sound card (more control over the actual sound).
This appears to be another product by Bose that is not truly a complete design. The set of speakers is a great product until you hit the Vista USB connection and its inherent problems. Another example of incomplete design on the side of Bose are the in the ear devices that keep losing their soft covers. They have good sound for in the ear; however they are hard to keep from losing the soft plastic covers; you cannot use the device without the covers.
Digital camera Review: Depends On Your Primary Listening Preference......... Summary: 4 Stars
I was all ready to order these but after reading mixed reviews here on Amazon, I decided that I needed to listen to them in person first. And boy, am I ever glad I did! I went to a store that had both the Companion 3 and the Companion 5 on display for demo. What I found out is that they are two very different animals! The Companion 3 is more suited for music and general use while the Companion 5 are more suited for surround sound movies. I think most people who buy these with the intention of listening to a lot of music will be sorely disappointed. When we go to a live concert, we are accustomed to maybe hearing some percussion to the left while also hearing flutes to the right; strings to the left and brass to the right and so on. We never hear instruments coming from behind! However, if you are looking for a thrilling movie experience then this is well suited as the sounds do appear to come from different directions; front, back and left, right. But for music and all around general listening, I strongly prefer the Companion 3 and that is just what I bought. (Saved myself $150 in the process!) I should also note that a system's EQ will make huge differences as well. I have the Creative X-Fi and it has various EQ modes that swing widely from one end of the spectrum to the other. So be sure to experiment with the EQ. Be Blessed!!!!
