Digital camera reviews of Bose Companion 5 Multimedia Speaker System - Graphite/SilverDigital camera Review: Excellent Speakers! Summary: 5 Stars
These speakers are expensive, but the sound quality is indeed exceptional and makes them worthwhile in my opinion. The 5 series speakers can put out a tremendous amount of sound, I currently have them set at about 8% volume, and turn them up to about 20% of their capacity if I want to hear them throughout my entire apartment. Highly satisfied with Bose sound quality. As an additional note, I bought the Bose Companion 3's and they are OK for a small room, have excellent style and very form factor, but put out just over 1/3 the breadth of sound as the Companion 5's. My suggestion would be to skip the 3's and go with the 5's.
Digital camera Review: Excellent speakers--my ears thank me. Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned several sets of Bose speakers over the years as well as a number of speakers made by other companies and I always keep coming back to the Bose sound. It's deep, it's rich, it's clear and in my opinion better than any of the other brands I've owned. I recently purchased a Companion 5 set for my new computer and I couldn't be happier with the purchase.
I read all of the reviews here as well as on a number of other sites before I made my purchase and in the end bought the Bose speakers based on the fact that I trust the brand. There's no doubt that these speakers are more expensive than many other so-called "multimedia speakers" but as is often the case (and is certainly so here), you get what you pay for.
It is worth noting that the stands for the speakers can be removed with a Phillips screwdriver and the speaker cable backed out easily. Having done so the speakers (a little less than 2.5" tall) will fit comfortably in the space between your desk and the bottom edge of a large monitor such as an Apple 30" Cinema Display (might fit under a smaller display too though I haven't tried). They look great there too! I attached some of those little black adhesive rubber feet to the bottom of mine to keep them from rocking or vibrating and it seems to have worked out very well.

I love this product. To hear music, to watch videos, to play game. It is simply great.
Digital camera Review: FANTASTIC Bose Companion 5 system Summary: 5 Stars
Just took delivery from Amazon and installed it on my new computer system. Absolutely FANTASTIC.......easy set up and operation. Kudos to the first Amazon reviewer listed who did the extensive testing between Logitech and Bose. Bose wins hands down......I've got extensive home theater high end gear; not Bose by the way, and this system is smokin hot for bass, reproduction of vocals and channel separation, simply unequaled in the computer sound system realm. If you can afford it then go for it. Free shipping and no sales tax.
You will not be disappointed I GUARANTEE IT.....
Installed on a Gateway FX gaming machine, 16gb ram, Intel i-7, 1.5 terabit HDD.....
Running Windows 7 Ultimate.....simple USB plug and play for the install.
No; I am not a shill for Bose.......Bose Companion 5 multimedia speaker system - Graphite/Silver
Digital camera Review: Fantastic sound, but at a cost. Summary: 4 Stars
Until a few years ago, I used nothing but the cheapest speakers and headphones I could fine. Bargain-bin all the way until I picked up a pair of high-end Sennheiser headphones and I finally "heard the difference" - since then I've gotten picky and have only wanted the best. After upgrading to a surround-sound system for my TV, I wanted a similar experience for my computer and after a bit of research, the Companion 5 was the way to go. These speakers are the equivalent of my Sennheiser headphones - I can hear stuff in music that I've never heard before (it's actually kind of strange!). It really takes sound to the 'next level' compared to the other speakers I've tried. I tried the Logitech systems, I even tried the other Bose Companion models, but they just couldn't compare.
To me, this system has 3 downsides - all of them are pretty big and take a hit on the score (hence the 4 stars instead of 5).
The first downside is the price - it's definitely better than the other systems I've seen, but it's also twice the price. With that said, trying the Companion 3 next to this (which sells for half the price), I was still happier to put down the extra cash for the Companion 5 series. It's still a very expensive system though.
The 2nd downside is the proprietary setup - rather than using a normal audio plug, this system connects to your pc via USB port and requires drivers. This isn't always the easiest thing to do, and you have to rely on the drivers always being available/compatible with your system. It gives more chances for error to occur.
The final downside are the other audio connections. Fortunately you CAN plug other devices into the audio volume knob. Unfortunately, it only takes a 3.5mm headphone plug. This would have been fantastic if it had accepted optical audio or even composite audio (to plug a game console into, for example). I had to purchase a Composite-to-3.5mm Y-adapter to plug a console into it, and besides being a hassle, it lessens the quality.
The volume knob is very nice - it has a headphone jack, 3.5mm input, and mute/unmute button in addition to changing the volume by turning it left or right.
The sound quality is amazing from this - I've never been a BOSE fan, but this thing is incredible. One last downside from it, is that it will show any flaws in low-quality audio you may have. Low-quality MP3s? You'll hear the difference. Youtube videos? you'll hear the difference. But when you pop in a DVD, Blu Ray or listen to a high quality MP3, the system really shines!
