Digital camera Review: 1 year and 4 pairs later... NEVER AGAIN!!!

YOU'VE BROKEN MY HEART, BOSE!
I loved Bose, I really did. I got my first pair of the Bose In-ear headphones back in 2006. It is important to note that these predated the "mobile" version of the headphones, so they did not have the microphone or call/music control. I had these headphones for 3 years and loved them every minute. Great sound, great quality, really comfortable.
Finally after 3 years of solid use, my In-ear headphones gave up on me. Something happened in the wire or plug and I lost sound in one side. Obviously my warranty had long expired, but I called Bose anyway and they gave me a great option. They had just come out with the Mobile In-ear headphones, an upgraded version of my broken pair. They offered me the new pair for $65 if I returned my broken, out-dated model. Well, I thought this a reasonable upgrade fee given the great life I had with the older ones, so I jumped on it and eagerly awaited my new headphones to arrive in the mail.
I had my first pair of Mobile In-ear headphones for less than a week before I noticed something odd. After an hour or so at the gym or on my bike, my iPhone would occasionally start to skip and/or turn itself off and on randomly without reason. As I had never experienced this in the past, I assumed it was a defect in the headphones so I called Bose and they happily exchanged them after I paid the return shipping.
I had my second pair of Mobile In-ear headphones for less than a week before they did the same thing: My iPhone would skip and/or turn off and on randomly after a couple hours of use. As my iPhone was pretty old, I thought it must be the player. Time went on and the problem only seemed to happen one of ten times at the gym so I got used to it. All was well for about 3 months, until one day the button to answer calls and control the music actually collapsed in on itself... I pressed it and it wouldn't come back out. A little annoyed, I called Bose and they happily exchanged my headphones... again.
The third pair of Mobile In-Ear headphones worked OK. My iPhone would still skip randomly and/or turn itself off and on for no apparent reason, but it wouldn't do it all the time and I had learned to live with it. One day, however, when I reached into my jean's pocket to retrieve my headphones, the plug separated from the wire. I was shocked. It just pulled right out, I didn't force it, I didn't tug on it, it just came off.... Once again I called Bose and they happily exchanged it. This time, they even paid for the return shipping.
The fourth pair seemed OK. However, when I upgraded to a brand new iPhone 4, my music would STILL skip and/or turn off and on at random after extended use. I primarily use my headphones when working out or on my bike so my best guess is that this problem is caused by any sort of moisture entering the small (and cheaply made) plastic button that controls the music. I was very careful to keep it away from my face, but it would seem that even brushing up against my sweaty chin or neck would sometimes set it off. This is a major design flaw.
In conclusion, I'll admit that these headphones sound great and are very comfortable. However, they are poooorly built and very breakable. The cheap (and I mean CHEAP) plastic button/microphone that controls calls and music can not stand up to anything. If you plan to always keep these headphones in the included carrying case and only use them on the bus to and from work, then I'd say go for it. If you have any expectation of your headphones standing up to any sort of element, stress or moderately rough usage through any sort of physical activity, then PLEASE look elsewhere.
So what happened to my Mobile Bose In-ear Headphones, you might ask? I actually just recently lost them. You might think I'd be angry about losing $100 headphones, but you would be wrong... I was happy to see them go. I recently bought the V-Moda Vibe II. They have the same controls and microphone that I liked about the Bose but are made entirely of stainless steel with a fiber cord. They MUCH more durable with the same sound quality and they are actually surprisingly cheaper...
NEVER AGAIN, BOSE!!! You've broken my heart!!!
