Digital camera reviews of Bose SoundDock Portable Digital Music System (Gloss Black)Digital camera Review: Awesome Sound Quality; 1 Annoyance (Plus comparison to Klipsch) Summary: 4 Stars
The sound quality really is impressive. I won't engage the Bosephiles vs. Bosephobes endless debate particularly since I don't belong in either camp. Regardless of your Bose bias, the sound quality truly is great. I've tried several iPhone docking stations in the store and nothing tops this. Spendy but still great.
My annoyance is related to initially connecting my iPhone 3G. The packaging says it's 3G compatible and it is except ... each time I dock my phone, I get a warning message that says "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone" and then it gives the option of going into Airplane mode. The thing is, it really is compatible! The music plays just fine, the unit charges the phone and I have never heard the iPhone interference sound (iPhone users know that distinctive sound). The warning even goes away spontaneously so I don't even have to tap an answer, but it's still an annoyance.
A second, very minor annoyance: the rubber pad feet (there are 5 of them) are all centrally located so the unit can rock a little. It only happens if you push down on one side but you may find yourself doing just that hitting the volume controls. No real issue, I guess. It's not going to tip over, but why didn't they simply put the pads out wider to eliminate the issue?
Annoyance aside, it's really about the sound and this unit really delivers. It's a shame to give this great sound system only 4 stars but the erroneous error message is an unfortunate oversight by Bose. Still, love it and recommend it.
UPDATE: Comparison to Klipsch iGroove SXT
I performed by own side-by-side comparison of the Klipsch iGroove SXT ($149) to the Bose SoundDock Portable ($359).
Bose
* Richer, deeper more robust sound. Truly is impressive.
* Touch volume buttons easier to push (vs. Klipsch mechanical buttons take a little force).
* Cord transformer part of the plug plus the cord can smartly be partially hidden in the transformer to let out only the amount of cord you want(vs. Klipsch transformer in the middle of the cord). Advantage Bose.
* Achieves louder volume (though Klipsch is pretty good too).
* Heavier unit, presumably a reflection of larger speaker magnets. (Both units have essentially the same countertop footprint but the Bose is taller.)
Klipsch
* Very good sound, but just not as impressive as the Bose.
* Exchangable docking port for various MP3 players (though the one-size-fits-all on the Bose works fine for my iPhone).
* Accepts the iPhone without a warning. (Annoyance of the Bose: it displays a warning message that it's not compatible with the iPhone even though actually is.)
* Price.
Bottom Line:
If you have $149 to spend, buy the Klipsch and you'll be happy. If you have $359 to spend, buy the Bose and you'll be very happy.

We looked for a long time before we finally found this system and it is AWESOME!! It's easy to use, portable, lightweight and the sound quality is unbelievable. We initially bought it to take outside on the patio but have found we use it all over the house. This system is more expensive than some others on the market but I'm telling you, it's worth the $$.
Digital camera Review: Bad design, cable keeps shimmying out of clip to iPod dock Summary: 1 Stars
I owned the Sounddock for about a year when it began giving me problems. Played it about 20 times or twice a month (had it in the living room where we only occasionally listen to music). I called up Bose about the problem (clicking sound, no music) and was told I was out of warranty, and that I needed to send in/exchange for a new one. Cost? $200 more. Wow, $500/600 total for a sound dock in one year + one month? Hmmmmmm.
I wasn't having it so I opened the Sounddock up and found the problem. The circuit cable insert that connects to the iPod dock is poorly constructed since it fastens to the bottom of the unit and tends to pull the cable out of the dock. It's very very difficult to reattach (it's not broken, it's a simple cable that should reattach, but this doesn't stay attached) because the angle requires that the case be practically shut before the cable will slide into the clip. This means you need to set the cable into the tip of the clip, close the case gently and hope all goes well and that the circuit ends meet the iPod dock. Good luck. So, somehow, I reattached it, once, and got my Sounddock working again. For a couple days. Then no sound again. Looked inside the casing again, the cable was out. I'm now convinced that playing the Sounddock at moderate volumes causes enough vibration that the cable shimmies out of the clip. Disconnect. Poor design. And the only recourse is to keep reconnecting the cable or else shell out more money to Bose.
WARNING: do not buy.
