First I would like to say that I am not an expert on speakers. I am just someone who loves listening to all kinds of music.
The SoundDock from Bose actually delivers pretty good sound for its size. I like listening to music at high (but not extremelly high) volumes, and it performs quite well. Once in a while I do hear some distortion. But anyway, it handles bedrooms and small rooms easily. For larger spaces it lacks the punch delivered by larger speakers and subwoofers.
If size is not crucial for you, you are probably better off with cheaper but larger speakers.
I am satisfied with my purchase. If it costed a little less (200-249) I would have given it 5 stars.

This unit produces some very good sound with bass. However I should note that the system uses between 5 to 9 watts of electricity when the system is off! That is, the ipod is off.
The bottom of the unit is warm to the touch as is the power brick. It may never power down despite there being an ipod attached to the systema and whether the ipod is off or not. Bad design from an efficiency point of view.
SO, it it is a great compact unit that won't disappointed with sound quality. However, be sure to unplug it when not using it!

I got this for christmas and I love it. The sounds amazing and loud especially coming out of such a small unit. The base is really good too specially when I listen to my hip pop and r n b. Yeah 300 dollars can seem a little over priced. But you get what you pay for. The remote it brings doesnt allow you to switch between playlist or anything like that but just make long playlist that way you wont have to go back and forth. Also theres an extra remote out that allows more options so consider that. I would recommend this product to anyone.Digital camera Review: Great Sound

My wife gave me a SoundDock with iPod Mini bundle for Christmas. This is my first MP3 player but not with Bose. This unit sound great and has sound comparable with the Bose Wave CD radio (I know because I have one at home & one at work). It really fills the room with good sound. It's not perfect but it's sure pretty sweet. Bose does not list frequency response but it sounds great to me. I figure I'm playing MP3's so it's more than sufficient for them.
Pros:
Great sound, easy to use with most iPods (iPod Shuffle is not supported but most others are). Charges unit & has volume controls on unit and remote has volume, pause and controls to let you skip forward or back.
Cons:
You must control bass and treble through the iPod, not the Bose. Remote does not give full control of iPod. Battery power option would be nice.
