Digital camera Review: $500 for an Over-Hyped Boombox?
Summary: 3 Stars
While my review of the Bose Wave Music System is critical, I should preface this with the fact that I have purchased three Bose Music Systems over the past year and a half. While my review is indeed critical, that has not stopped me from buying additional units.
$500 for an over-hyped boombox? Indeed. That is what I've paid, three times over. Why? Aesthetics and simplicity. Technically just about every other system out there sounds better. Financially just about every other system out there is less expensive.
True sound reproduction has never been what you bought Bose products for, the Wave Music System is no different. Minimalism, discrete circuits, and analog reproduction are all out the window. Overly "bright" and artificial sound are par for the course.
However, I suppressed every audiophile instinct I have and bought these units because they are easy on the eyes and are simple all-in-one units. Velcro the remote to the top of the unit and hand them out for use. No cables and external speakers to mess with like comparable units.
Simplicity is what made me purchase the Wave, and repurchase it. Your mileage may vary.
