I can't speak to the issue of whether weather affects the product but I can tell you that this pairs perfectly with the Bracketron PHW-203-BL Mount, Mobile Grip-It Windshield, and I use it for my cell phone. I call it the Anti-slide Dash Pad Donut Shaped Base Support Holder for a GPS, Radar Detector, MP3 Player, Cellphone or anything that has a suction type base support bracket. Probably even get it to work with a CB radio if you can get a suction cup type bracket for a CB.
Works great for my Tomtom GPS.
It is like a 8 inch diameter tire shaped bean bag Donut with a pretty much non-skid leathery-rubber like base and 3-1/2 inch plastic base plate in the top center of the donut, that your GPS suction bases attach too. Then just set it on your dash and it stays where you put it. It works great on our vinyl dash in our older car and excellent on our Scion xD dash(but it's a pretty flat dash anyway) but it does not move at all on turns or fast stops on the vinyl as long as you don't set it right on the down slope of the dash.
Really like it, good product, value and good price and really handy. Especially if you don't want to suction cup your GPS to your windshield. Plus it's real easy and convenient to just set it and your GPS (or whatever) on the floor up under the dash when you leave the vehicle or put it in the trunk out of sight.

This Nav Mat is great. It holds my Magellan 5000 Series securely. I use generous amounts of Armour All Ultra Shine on my dash and the Nav Mat still holds its grip and doesn't move. Doesn't damamge any portion of the dash. I highly recommennd this product if you need a pad for your navigation unit.Digital camera Review: As Advertised

This product has been just what the doctor ordered to keep the GPS in place and removable in evening. I am a pretty wild driver an it has not failed to keep the unit in place.
