Digital camera Review: A good deal.

The HL-2170w printer was easy to set up over my wireless network. I just followed the instructions. I have had a previous bad experience with another brand of wireless printer, so I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of setup of the HL-2170w.
The print quality is very good at 600 DPI.
I am happy with the purchase. It feels like a lot of printer for the money.

Purchased this printer in Aug so I have been an owner for about 7 months. It has been an excellent printer. It was a replacement to my HP LaserJet Series II which was a horse but ready for the glue factory. We have put 1579 pages on the "Starter" cartridge which specifies only 1000 pages, but we generally print with Toner Saver. I have now just installed a knock-off cartridge from SuperMedia and it was a breeze to install and we are back in business. As it is a 360 equiv cartridge which specifies 2600 pages I hope to get over 3000. I have this configured over wireless which was initially 802.11b (11MB) and then I got a new router that was 802.11G/N so I had to reconfig. I did not use the Brother automatic software as I am too suspicious, I was able to configure over the web (hard wired at first). The user interface is not trivial but workable for a knowledgeable person. We print to this printer from 4 different computers attached both phisically to the network and wirelessly with Only a power cord runing to the printer. I have used the printer successfully with a LinkSys Access Point and now a NetGear Wireless Router. The printer only supports 802.11b/g so it is connected at 54MB now using WPA-PSK [TKIP].
This printer in my opinion is a no-brainer to get. <$150 and 1500 pages and $30 more for another 3000 pages. It shows only 2 paper jams on its log web page, both were caused by user errors in 1579 pages. It is an Excellent Printer for the money.

The Brother HL-2170w is a fantastic little printer. Print quality and speed are good; much higher than low-end printers from even just a few years back. I'm also impressed with the relatively low paper curl from such a small printer.
I took one star off for the Mac OS X wireless setup being trickier than necessary, as other reviewers have commented upon. However, once setup is complete, the printer just works. We've run a few varieties of specialty media such as labels through it, and those work great as well.
This printer is a fantastic combination of quality, price, and convenience for home or small office use.

Worked well out of the box. I can print via wired or wireless. The built-in network card connects directly to my switch, saving a USB port on my computer, as well as allowing others to print without slowing my machine down. Built in wireless network card is very nice, also. The toner cartridge looks a bit small, and the quantity of pages has yet to be determined. Print quality is good. Set up was easy with the provided CD. A Windows 7 CD is also included. Overall, this small laser printer is a lot of bang for the buck.
