I did a lot of research before buying the Brother HL-5250DN here on Amazon.
It arrived after three business days, was well-packaged, easy to set up and neither noisy (as some reviewers have said) nor taxing on my power supply.
Just about as full of features as anything in its price range, robust, simple to use and of an amazingly high print quality, I could not be happier with it.
Support at Brother is good, the manual excellent (although Mac options are not always clear) and integration with 10.4 superb.
I bought the Brother HL-5250DN to give a professional feel to my writing submissions and work proposals. It far exceeds what I expected and wanted.
Reviews all over the internet call this a huge 'hit' for Brother. They're right. Wonderful!

I got this printer because I was sick and tired of buying ink for the "free" printer/copier/scanner I got with my computer. I have an Intel Imac, a Macbook, and my husband has a Dell. I wanted all three computers to be able to print this printer easily, especially the wireless laptop. I connected the printer, installed the print driver on the Windows machine and the two macs found the printer without any effort whatsoever. I'm now able to print from every room in the house, and it's pretty darn cool. It was easy to set up and didn't take any time at all. (And if we didn't have the Dell, it would have been even faster.)Digital camera Review: Awesome printer!!

I would heartily recommend this printer to anyone looking for a reliable, good quality printer.
Pros:
- Built-in duplexing at a reasonable price: this is like a dream come true for me. No more turning the page over and feeding it into the printer again!
- Built-in networking: again very convenient. I connected this to my home wireless router using a regular network cable and was immediately printing from across the house using my laptop's wireless connection.
- Very fast: this is so much faster than the old HP 4L it replaced!
- Excellent quality: The text is very clear with no dots visible anywhere - exactly what you would expect from a quality laser printer. Images are not bad either though you certainly can't compare with a photo-quality inkjet (most laser printers have this problem so no biggie!)
- Did I mention reasonable price? Less than a couple of hundred after rebates is excellent considering the features and quality.
Cons:
- I did notice the high power draw, but the flickering of my home lights went away after I connected it to its own dedicated power outlet.
This is currently one of the highest rated laser printers and I can certainly see why - Brother has hit the nail on the head with this one!
Digital camera Review: Bad power and lousy duplexer

I tried this printer for a few weeks before returning. It is excellent except for its power supply and duplexer. The power supply is so ill built that evertime the printer comes out of stand-by the lights dim and my UPS kicks in to keep the voltage to my PC. There are many comments on the Internet about this problem with Brother printers. The duplexer cycles even if only one side needs to be printed doubling the time for each page. Other than that it prints well and performs as advertised.
