Digital camera reviews of Brother IntelliFax 2820 Laser Fax Machine and CopierDigital camera Review: Good Product Summary: 5 Stars
This product delivers what it promises. I use it in my retail store to fax invoices, make copies, etc. MUCH quicker than the old fax machine.
Digital camera Review: Good Results Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased this as an upgrade to the one we had. I like it much better as it has a paper tray and keeps the paper clear. No problems.
Digital camera Review: Good SOHO fax, copier and printer Summary: 4 Stars
It was time to replace our old Panasonic fax/answering machine. I chose this one based on reviews and really wanted to get a laser printer. No thermal paper, film rolls, or inkjet cartridges this time
I bought the 2820 along with the IO Gear GPSU21 USB network print server. So far, I like it.
Footprint:
Surprisingly, it has a smaller footprint than the HP Inkjet it replaced. A little taller but the printouts come out at the top so you can put a book or a coffee cup in front of the printer without blocking the pages coming out.
Noise Level:
I thought it was a little noisy at first but that's only when it's printing. After a few minutes, the fan turns off and it goes silent.
Compatibility with other electronics:
If you have an answering machine, you can set up an option that will let the answering machine pick up but still listen for CG (fax) tones. BTW, if you use VoIP service instead of a standard telephone line, then an analog fax machine may not work well ([...]).
Printing and Copying:
Printing is fast compared with ink jets. I tried the copying function and it fed multiple sheets smoothly. Print quality is up there with what you'd see in an old fashioned newspaper. Text is great and photos are adequate (but black and white of course). Capacity is 1500 pages with the "starter" toner that comes with the machine and 2500 pages with the TN350 replacement cartridge.
I've also learned that when the "replace toner" alarm comes on you can tape over some holes on the side of the cartridge and buy yourself enough time to order a replacement toner. I see refurbished ones going for about what you'd pay for a recycled black ink cartridge.
There are laser printers with much higher capacity for more money. These usually have a larger footprint, may be noisier, etc. Depending on how much printing you do, the higher capacity lasers could be a better deal. For my use this model is more than enough.
Faxing:
The fax modem runs at up to 14.4kbps which is about 50% faster than most low budget fax machines. You can get "high speed fax machines" for more money but sending a fax at 33.8kbps to or from a normal residence line is an iffy proposition. The best I ever did with an analog modem was 24kbps, even when dialing into UUNet (Worldcom) which seemed to have a POP in every telephone exchange.
Like HP, Brother has a toll free test line that you can fax your warranty registration to and receive a test fax back.
Software and Network Printing:
The software suite you can download from Brother's web site has a PC to fax function so you could send faxes directly from a PC to the fax machine and then out the telephone line without having to print them first. I haven't tried it but it looks like a time saver.
Setting the printer up over a network with the IO Gear print server worked quite well. Brother sells it's own print server but it costs about the same as the fax machine. The ones from Brother I've seen on Amazon are outrageously expensive.
Delivery:
As usual, Amazon's partner delivered quickly. No issues there.
The bottom line:
All in all, more than adequate for our needs.
Digital camera Review: Good fax , printer , copier Summary: 4 Stars
I just purchased the 2820 from Amazon. I was concerned about the quality and the power surge noted by some in their reviews. As for the quality I have been very satisfied.the paper curl mentioned by some might be caused by using low quality paper, you must use laser quality 24 wt paper The power surge at first gave me some problems, however I purchase a quality surge protecter and I have not had any other problems, also it might be helpful to turn on the fax first thing and then any other computers etc.I have it connected to my computer and use it as a copier and printer and as of now I have not experienced any problems. It does take up lot of space but the unit is well worth it.Overall thi is a very good fax, printer, copier and would recomend it.
Digital camera Review: Good machine Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this Brother because I was stupid enough to first buy an Epson and had to ask for forgiveness on more that one occassion due to cursing! I had an old Brother for 15 years and should have gone back to Brother instead of being fooled by the Epson price. You get what you pay for. So far so good with the paper feed and faxing. I would recommend this machine.
