Digital camera reviews of Brother MFC-3240c All-in-OneDigital camera Review: Ink? What ink? Summary: 1 Stars
You may as well spend your money on a big paperweight. Even if you hardly ever use this printer, it still runs out of ink. Every couple of months, you get a message saying, "Cyan empty". So you go out, buy a cyan cartridge and put it in, expecting to be able to print. Except that as soon as you put in the cyan cartridge, you get a message saying, "Magenta empty". Ha! As noted in other reviews, you cannot print B&W when any of the other color cartridges are empty.
The display is virtually unreadable, even when configured to the brightest setting. The printer casing is awkward to open. The paper feeder is finicky and you'll get "paper jam" messages even when there's nothing there. And I found that no matter how I set the paper guides on the automatic document feeder, my copies still came out slightly askew.
Honestly, I'm used to printer annoyances - they all have them. However, this is the first printer I've ever wanted to kill. We are in the process of replacing it and I've sworn to take a sledge hammer to it as soon as I get that replacement.
Digital camera Review: It will suck you dry... Summary: 1 Stars
I have to agree with the other reviews on this device. It is ok to decent as a fax machine and a document scanner. I use it with the included PaperPort software to scan documents (recepits, etc) to PDF for archiving.
I also use it to send faxes about once a week or so. The device works well as a fax machine.
The ONLY time I use this device to print is to print out fax status sheets (as evidence that a fax was sent successfully). I have had this machine for less than 6 months and maybe printed 25 or so pages (black only) from the printer. I am on my second black ink cartridge and it is almost gone. I am am now out of color ink that came with the printer even though I have never printed in color. This is insane. How can a printer use that much ink and not be deemed defective! The printer will not function at all if even one of the cartridges is empty. I will not be buying anymore ink for this evil machine. I will use it strictly as a scanner and a fax (outgoing only since I can not print) for a little while longer... then it is off to the trash-heap.
Digital camera Review: Machine error 41 Summary: 1 Stars
I have owned the MPC442C and got a error 41 over the weekend. It said call Brothers immediately. I call and was on hold for only 21 minutes. They said I was out of warranty and nothing could be done. I have about 8 ink cartridges in my desk new and thought of buying another Brothers machine to be able to use them, but not after research and this treatment. I am not going to buy another Brothers because of this poor customer service.
Digital camera Review: OKAY - but with PROBLEMS Summary: 2 Stars
I got this item for a job i was doing. I had to copy and scan several hundred documents. I will say that it did that with ease and the resolution was not bad either. BUT - watch out for the printer part of this thing. It is not that great. First off, i would suggest that brother really get it together with their ports. The USB port is located *inside* the machine. It is really easy to close the lid and cut the cord if you wire it the wrong way - so maybe having it *outside* like all other printers would be a thought. Next the tray is all messed up and doesn't load right. When i try to load paper i am serious that the tray doesn't even fit in any grooves. It seems poorly designed. Then there was this big fin type of thign that i don't know *what* was for and just threw it out. The paper also gets jammed frequently. So in all, this thing is not a bad document scanner or copier. That part is pretty darn good actually. The software is not bad either. But the printer part sucks.
Digital camera Review: So So Printer Summary: 1 Stars
Pros:
The only saving grace about this printer: I bought this printer at a sale for 30 bucks last year. So I didn't pay anywhere near what is advertised.
It's OK when you want to use the printer rarely.
CONS:
90 dollars for this printer - No way.
This machine runs out of ink - or at least pretends to. I have had to replace the black ink twice, even though the first cartridge was half full. And I print minimally in black. The same is true for the Color Cartridges. It will tell you the darn cartridge is empty even though it is at least 1/4th full.
Don't even try to print photos.
Bottomline: Decide what you want to use your printer for. You use it say once a week, print about half a dozen color/bw pages every week and you get it for 30$ or less. This printer is for you!
