Digital camera reviews of Brother MFC-7840W Laser Multifunction Center

Digital camera Review: Business Owner
Summary: 5 Stars

I've relied on Brother products for several years...they play well with our computer applications, and offer the most features for the money...rarely have any issues! Highly recommended.

Digital camera Review: Could not get wireless to work
Summary: 1 Stars

I saw some other reviews where the wireless was an issue. I thought perhaps these were from users not very technical. However, I work in the computer field and there is indeed some kind of issue with the wireless. For this amount of money you should not have to go through so much trouble.

Also, a big nuisance for me, since my wireless key is all numeric and it has a single mode keypad to enter your key. lower case first, then upper, then number, so for example to just enter the number 8 I would have to tap that key 6-8 times just to enter a single digit. And of course it turns to an asterisk immediately when you go to the next character. I know it is supposed to be a security thing, but "I" am the one entering it, no one is looking over my shoulder, and I would like to be able to see the key in its entirety after entering and before saying okay.

Gave 1 star since without the wireless I could not evaluate anything else about this product.

Returning to the store.

Digital camera Review: Couldn't be happier!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an awesome printer and I got it at an amazing price. I was replacing a multifunction inkjet that cost more in ink cartridges than any sane person on a budget could afford. It was easy to setup and interface with my wireless network. Both the wireless printing and scanning functions work beautifully in Windows 7 and in Mac Snow Leopard.

Digital camera Review: Defective product with bureaucratic customer service
Summary: 1 Stars

I had high hopes for this product after reading the positive reviews here. Unfortunately it was defective out of the box. There seems to be a known issue with a toner cartridge error: the sensor fails to read that the cartridge is full. As soon as I plugged it in with the factory-shipped cartridge, it registered the error. Fortunately, thought I, i've ordered a spare cartridge so I banged that in and up popped the same error. I then went to the online help site which has no mention of this problem even though a google search shows it to be an issue with related Brother printers.

Customer support is only available on weekdays so finally on my one day off in months I call Brother. Their rep insisted on sending me another print cartridge to try even though I pointed out that I had already done that. Her response is that they are required to proceed on that basis. When I asked what would happen if the same error resulted, she refused to give me any details, saying that there were 3 options that "they were not at liberty to discuss with customers". I asked to speak to the supervisor who revealed the incredible secret that the next step if the cartridge replacement did not work would be to do an exchange of the printer. I asked why that was kept from customers and she responded that it was company policy. At this point I felt like I was in some French bureaucracy. Elapsed wasted time with Brother = 1 hour.

Fortunately a quick call to Amazon resulted in an immediate return option. Thank God for their customer service. I'm going to go with the H-P products, which are American to boot.

This may be a wonderful product when it works but if you're buying it online you will depend on the customer services and the Brother service is primordial.

Digital camera Review: Do not buy!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

We had this printer for 2 months and exactly one day after the return period expired it started acting up, eating paper, spilling toner, getting stuck all the time, and overall malfunctioning. The return policy for Amazon sucks so we could not send it back. We are now stuck with a useless printer and an office that desperately needs it. What a waste of money. I thought I had done my homework when shopping and the reviews were not bad so I thought I was making a good purchase. I don't know what to do anymore.

I would not recommend anybody buy this printer, I have had other brands like HP and Canon and they have never had this happen. I would have spent $30-$50 more on one of those and probably would have had no problems.

And Amazon sucks! I don't understand why I cannot return a defective product.
