Digital camera Review: Buy the Grundig

The pitch on this radio is its superior AM reception. When I recieved the new CCrane I made a side by side comparison of AM reception with my old Boston Receptor radio and the Boston performed slightly better. Since the CCrane was purchased to replace the Boston I returned it. I then purchased the Grundig Field Radio S350DL and was thrilled. The Grundig has better AM reception, and performes great for shortwave and FM listening as well. I live in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles and was searching for a radio I could use at night while trying to fall to sleep. The only requirement was it had to be able to receive KFI 640 without having to move it to face a certain way. I kept trying radios all the way from a cheap handheld up to a Grundig SL350 and none of them would do it. I finally decided I needed something that would allow me to connect an external AM antenna. Although the Grundig said it would I found no difference in AM when I attached a long wire antenna.
I finally decided the CC crane would be the one that I needed. That ended up being correct. I hooked it up to the antenna and 640 comes in fine. I don't have to turn the radio to get any of my stations. It is the most selective and sensitive radio I've ever owned. I haven't used the memory function but it has it. I would recommend this if you are trying to tune in one station that is hard to get.

Darn good radio for the price with good construction and quality buttons and knobs. Outstanding AM and SW quality for a portable using only the telescoping antenna. Worked great out of the box with no problems. AM(MW in Europe) very sensitive. But it was the FM that really impressed me. I record a public radio show for my brother-in-law in England, and the CCRadio with line out went right into my computer so I could burn a CD for him. Short wave is very good also, but would be nice if long wave was included.
One confusing item I found was the low battery indicator when operating on D cells, after only 2-3 hours it was down to 2 bars. Checking the batteries with a voltmeter showed they were still above 1.5 volts. The AC adapter delivers 9 volts so batteries will indicate low. Guess if you run on batteries it will be like the old days, replace when the radio quits.
Sound quality is good on speaker, and excellent on headphones. very pleased wih purchase and service from Amazon.

Purchased the CC Radio because the AM reception is really poor for this area of Ohio. The reception on the CC SW Radio allows us to bring in many more local and distant AM stations even when they reduce power at night. Great Radio!
