Digital camera reviews of C Crane CCRadio-SW (Model CSW-TCF)Digital camera Review: Great reception, sound & value Summary: 5 Stars
This C Crane am/fm/sw radio cures the am fading at sundown, has a strong sound for a single speaker and impressive shortwave reception with no additional antenna. Overall it is a great value.
Digital camera Review: Great value for it's price Summary: 3 Stars
Some attributes of this radio are excellent while others are absolutely idiotic. But when you factor in price, it becomes a very plausible choice. Note that this radio is actually the Chinese Redsun RP-2100 labeled in English.
Strengths:
1. Well constructed case, whip antenna, precision tuning knob, volume/tone controls, and switches which have smooth low-noise rotation.
2. Radio performs well on AM/FM and has wide/narrow bandwidth selection.
3. When used with quality headphones (20-20K response), music fidelity is excellent.
4. Ample input/output jacks (see manual).
5. Either four AA cells or four D cells can be used.
6. Has a dual time feature to display local time or GMT.
7. Has Bass & Treble controls that actually do something.
Weaknesses:
1. One major flaw is the short-sighted absence of a beat oscillator for SSB reception.
2. Movement of the snap-up/down carrying handle is blocked by the whip antenna when extended.
3. Digital display is not back-lit and only has 1 LED at the left end leaving the right side of display dark and unreadable.
4. Push buttons don't always make solid electrical contact. Requires extra pressing force.
5. Has 50 memories yes but limited to 10 memories per band.
6. Pressing memory recall advances forward only. To jump from say chan 2 to 10 you must press the button 8 times.
7. Radio has no keypad for direct frequency input.
8. Push buttons can be illuminated but rotary knobs & switches remain dark. It is pointless to illuminate just part of the controls.
9. High PLL synthesizer noise while rotating tuning dial on Short Wave bands. (generates popping sounds when digits change)
10. Transistor Noise - Higher than usual audio background hiss as compared to the Sangean (ccRadio-Plus).
Please note that this radio is extremely sensitive so when using on shortwave, turn off your computer, modem, and router. Also turn off any compact fluorescent light bulbs in the house. Otherwise you will hear nothing but RF hash & noise generated by these devices.
Digital camera Review: MY FIRST C CRANE RADIO Summary: 4 Stars
This is my first c crane radio. I decided to buy it after hearing
about it on the COAST TO COAST AM show and i am pleased with it.
I am an avid a.m. listener and i find it hard to believe that I
paid big bucks for an expensive pioneer receiver before I
purchased this.
For a lot less money and a lot better quality this
c crane radio is far superior in tuning in those hard to reach
a.m. stations.
At night i can even hear a station all the way from IDAHO and
I live in west MICHIGAN!
There is an a.m. rf gain dial, for fine tuning your stations in
during the evening hours, in the case of those irritating night time overlaps.
This radio comes equipped with a twin coil ferrit antenna,
short wave radio, dial speed settings, lots of pre set memory,
an alarm and great f.m. reception. There is also a line out,
so you can plug this into your big expensive stereo receiver( that you may have spent too much money on ).
One of my favorite things about this radio is... you can use rechargeable batteries and recharge them in the radio itself.
This radio is simple enough to use for the normal plug in and play
person and fun enough to tinker with for the gadget persons as well.
I would suggest this for any one who lives in the city or hard to reach places out in the middle of no where.
The only reason why i did not give this radio 5 stars is because it is not AMERICAN made. How ever since nothing is ever really AMERICAN made any more i am happy to say that the company is here in the states for
customer service and sales and happy to report that you wont have to speak to any one in INDIA!
I have had this for a year now and still no problems.
I have NOT had any of the led display problems that have been talked about in regards to this radio in other reviews.
Digital camera Review: My $15 dollar alarm clock has better AM reception Summary: 1 Stars
I am very disappointed with this radio. I purchased it to pull in AM stations -- I live near some Desert Mountains. Literally I have a $15 clock radio that pulls in the reception at least as well. Crane says that if only I buy an "optional" AM booster antenna that I would be happy with it. Gee Whiz!
Digital camera Review: Nice Portable Radio Summary: 5 Stars
This is a nice portable radio. It's as good as or better than other portable radios, but it could be better. It's not as good as advertised. I'm waiting for the Redsun RP3100. C Crane will be selling the 3100 in the US. This C CSW model is the Redsun RP2100. If you never heard of Redsun, it is the Chinese company that makes most of the brands that you think are made by your favorite company. You can look it up on line.
