Digital camera reviews of C Crane CCRadio-SW (Model CSW-TCF)Digital camera Review: Not what I expected Summary: 3 Stars
I have heard fine things about the C Crane radio & when I decided to replace my clock radio it was my first choice. I got it because it already had the antenna I had researched as the one to correct the constant hum I had in my am reception in my bedroom. Unfortunately, it had the same hum that went away only when I put my hand over the antenna. When I spoke to the C Crane customer service rep, I was told that I needed another antenna to correct the problem. That's why I sent it back. I can get the same antenna for my old clock radio & get the same improved reception without spending the extra money. Unless you really want the extra bells & whistles the radio has, buy the antenna.
I also had major problems being able to read the time in the dark while in bed. I take my glasses off at night, so my vision is poor. I have found that large red numbers work best for me. I absolutely could not read the time or any other information that could be shown on the screen. I ended up taking a small travel alarm to bed with me so I could tell the time. This radio went back.
Digital camera Review: OK radio, but AM not as good as any car radio Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this radio because of the great reviews about its AM reception. We live in a fairly remote area. The C Crane radio may be better than other portable or table model radios, I do not know. However, it does not receive AM stations that our 2000 Toyota or our 2004 Chevy car radios do (even in the garage). What a disapointment. The stations I wanted to listen to are about 90 miles away. How could people praise the reception in such a radio????? By the way, I did move the radio various ways to try and improve reception. No luck.
Digital camera Review: Over Hyped for AM reception Summary: 2 Stars
I have ordered 2 of these in the past month and both went back. One was dead out of box on AM & SW. The 2nd. was very disappointing on AM reception. The radio was excellent on FM so so on SW. Also it would not work with D cell batteries
I have a Radio Shack Table Radio from the 70's that puts the CCradio to shame on AM reception.
I purchased a Boston Acoustics Radio and a Terk passive AM antenna and powered FM antenna and it brings in AM stations during the day over 200 hundred miles away. At night I can bring in WSM in Nashville and WOWO Fort Wayne IN. and WLS Chicago with no problem. I live in rural central SC and I can listen to WBT Charlotte 140 miles away even during the day like it's next door.
The Boston Acoustics on FM with the powered Terk antenna is amazing.
The room filling sound of the Boston Acoustics is in a class by it's self.
Digital camera Review: Quality Radio Summary: 5 Stars
Great radio. The way things are made today, I was surprised at the heft and sound of this radio. Great quality all the way around. It has speaker jacks to use as a stereo, but has great adjustable tone in mono. AM and FM have outstanding receiving. SW bands are dependent on your area of use, I live in the South, so I receive a lot of Cuba, Spanish language transmissions. I also pull in Radio China, Germany, and some Classical Music transmissions from who knows where. Keep in mind, I'm only using the attached whip antenna. A long wired, amplified antenna would improve station quantity, but I use it mainly for AM talk radio. If you put this model in a YOUTUBE search, you'll find a guy in Canada, who gets just about everything on SW, all with only the whip antenna. After a power surge, the power adapter blew and Radio Shack was out of replacements. I called CCrane for a replacement and received excellent customer service. I'll conclude with I should have used the power adapter with a surge protector. Great radio!
Digital camera Review: Recieved two broken radios in a row Summary: 1 Stars
I am not one to write reviews, but my frustration was so great that I felt it was important to warn consumers. The first radio I received was really messed up. The dials didn't work properly at all. I would switch to S1 and it would display S2, or I would switch to FM and get S3. Also there was a problem with the tuning knob. I was surprised that what was supposedly a "quality" product was in such disarray so I decided to have it replaced (figuring it was just a bad egg in the bunch). The second I received was broken as well, although it tuned in great and the switches work perfectly. The problem with the second one was that the liquid crystal display was not displaying all the information. So buyer...beware. I am going to get a Grundig.
