Digital camera reviews of Cables To Go 7 Port USB 2.0 Hub

Digital camera Review: Beautiful
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this hub about 3 years ago and still use it. Like many others I find it to be a very sturdy and effective hub. Light years beyond the cheapo unit I had previously bought from one of those big box stores.

Digital camera Review: Best Hub Ever
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a solid, well built device, unlike most plasticky flimsy ones I've had. A few things to note:

1. As others have said, the blue light is really bright. It's so bright, in fact, it hurts my eyes (and they aren't particularly sensitive), if I look directly at it. I actually like it, as it allows me to shut off all of the other lights in my office and leave the room while my computer shuts down without walking into a wall. It's that bright.
2. I ran 6 different devices off of this, all at once, to see if the number of devices reduced the performance of any devices. It didn't. THey all did great. I did this with the AC power connected, and I assume that that is required. I did't test it with just the USB cable hooked up.
3. It comes with a USB A to mini B plug, not a standard A to B plug. That means that the 10 foot USB cable I bought for it before it arrived didn't work. I found a little adapter, which cost me $10. If you're buying a cable for this, be sure to buy one that is USB A to mini B.
4. Finally, the hub slides too easily in the metal frame. It should lock into place somehow, but doesn't. That's a pretty big flaw, IMO. To solve it, I just put some foam double sided sticky tape between the two parts, and left the paper on one side so the two pieces would slide together (with much force). Now it's tightly locked into place, and I will never need to loosen it. Should not have to do that, though, so that's why I gave it four stars instead of five.

It's an outsanding hub, and I recommend it, subject to the above.

Digital camera Review: Best Hub I've Used
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this a couple months ago on the strength of the reviews here and for its size and price. I have not been disappointed, so I'm adding my own (exacting) stamp of approval. The design serves its function. I use mine with an iMac, and it comfortably sits on the iMac platform base. It conveniently has ports on the front (3) and rear (4), which works perfectly for my needs: I've got peripherals plugged into the back (printer, external hard drive, iPod hookup) and use the front jacks for temporary connections (a flash drive and the cable for my camera when I upload photos). With the cables positioned properly the hub stays put and doesn't slide around as I've experienced with another hub. (There is the option to screw it into a desk or stand, but for me this isn't necessary.) The construction is metal and, as others have noted, solid. Its solidity, in fact, exceeded my expectations even after having read others' comments on this before purchasing. The blue power indicator light is brighter and larger than I would make it, but in a lit room it's not a distraction for me. I've used a couple other hubs and they didn't come close to this one and certainly weren't any cheaper.

Digital camera Review: Best USB hub I've used so far
Summary: 4 Stars

I am Mac user and it's been working perfectly so far. I usually use all 7 connections: 2 ext. HD, 2 mouse, 1 printer, 1 Wacom, 1 scanner. so far No Cons. warks great!

Digital camera Review: Best USB hub ever
Summary: 5 Stars

My old SanDisk 7-port powered hub from about 4 years ago finally started flaking out and stopped recognizing my peripherals, and initially I purchased a D-Link hub to replace it. As soon as I plugged that in, it was worse than the old fried SanDisk. It even caused one of my external hard drives to stop mounting somehow, even though I never even plugged that drive into the D-Link. It also caused all sorts of weird behavior with all my peripherals. I returned it immediately and bought this one.

Even my trusty old SanDisk had never been able to handle all my peripherals at once, and I'd never even bothered trying to plug the more power-hungry devices into it. I didn't think any USB hub could handle that. But this one can. I have a first generation Macbook Pro, and connected to this hub currently are: Wacom Intuos 4 tablet, M-Audio Axiom 25 MIDI keyboard, Das keyboard, Epson printer, Epson scanner, SanDisk multi card reader, and occasionally a USB flash drive. This solid hub has yet to even wince. I still haven't plugged in my 500 GB external drives, especially the one that is not wall-wart powered, but I wouldn't be surprised if this hub could even handle those. Maybe I'll get another one and chain them together. But I don't really need nor want to mount all four external drives at once.

This hub's aluminum construction is more substantial, even the ports seem to grip my USB cables more firmly, and the quality seems to be above and beyond anything I've experienced in a USB hub before. This is the hub I've always wished existed but hadn't found.
