Digital camera reviews of Canon 104 Black Toner Cartridge

Digital camera Review: Cartridge life stinks!
Summary: 1 Stars

My previous printer was an HP 1320 and I replaced cartridges once a year. My printing load has not changed and I put a new cartridge in my Canon printer, after I bought it late last year and the original cartridge run out soon after. It has been less than two months and the printer is already indicating that it is low in toner. Based on my experience with the original cartridge, I estimate I have 3 to 4 more weeks with the annoying warning, but then the toner will be really out. This is ridiculous; it is one quarter of the life of my old generation HP printer.

Digital camera Review: Caveat emptor! 1 Cartridge/month
Summary: 1 Stars

Buyer beware! The print life of the cartridge is unacceptable. I've been running through 1 cartridge/month in my small business office! In 3 months, the price on the ink will have passed the price of the printer.

Digital camera Review: Cheap and fast
Summary: 4 Stars

On sale, paid about $50 + shipping free instead of $70 for retail boxs. Will not need refill for a long time.

Digital camera Review: Did not receive Canon-brand toner
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm not sure what Amazon is shipping since there is no manufacturer listed on the cartridge package itself, but what I received when I ordered this specific item is not a genuine Canon-brand cartridge. The generic packaging lists "Laser Toner Cartridge," gives a part number of ST-104 (there is no such part number on the Canon Web site), and says it's "compatible for: Canon ImageCLASS 4120/4122/4150" and two other products. In small print, it states, "All brands and trademarks are the properties of their respective holders and referred are referred to for descriptive purposes only." (Yes, it actually has the words duplicated.)

I've returned this to Amazon.

I wonder if third-party aftermarket cartridges are being substituted for some orders. However, that would be an error since the product description on this page when I ordered said the cartridge is "by Canon" and included a paragraph about why it's important to buy "genuine Canon" products for warranty reasons (which is why I went with what was supposed to be a Canon-brand toner). I've flagged this and asked Amazon to review the product description to make sure it matches the product they are shipping.

If you order this and genuine Canon is important to you for warranty or other performance reasons, verify when it arrives that it's in Canon, not generic third-party, packaging. Reading the reviews here, apparently some orders are, and mine and others aren't.

Digital camera Review: Disappointly low yield
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased the Canon brand rather than one of the compatible brands to refill my ink cartridge. I regret to say that it ran out of ink surprisingly quickly. No, I didn't "count" the amount of pages that it printed, but I will say that I only went through apprxomately TWO 500 page packages before it started beeping and saying that I needed to charge the cartridge. Sure, shaking the cartridge got me through a few more weeks. Still, not what you expect when you pay so much money for an ink cartridge.
