Digital camera reviews of Canon 10x30 Image Stabilization Binoculars w/Case, Neck Strap & BatteriesDigital camera Review: Great Binoculars Summary: 4 Stars
I have owned a pair of these for six years now and have had them work flawlessly for me. I work on tug boats and use them to see the names on ships day/night, as well as other navigational markers. Because of the vibration in the tug boat, ordinary binoculars are tricky at best. Every person who looks through them instantly wants a pair.
I found that focusing while holding the stabilization button down at the same time feels natural. Compared to other binoculars of any price they measure up in clarity.
The only reason I gave them a four star is that I wish they had come with lens caps. And that a HARD case was at least an option.
Digital camera Review: Great Binoculars!! Summary: 5 Stars
I couldn't be more pleased with this pair of binoculars. The stabilizer button works really well and even when not depressed the binoculars are never shakey like others we have tried. At dusk (and night) the objects you are viewing actually appear brighter than the available light. Focusing is easy and quick. I definitely recommend this pair - now my husband wants a pair like mine!
Digital camera Review: Great Binoculars, Missing Lens Caps Summary: 5 Stars
As other reviews here have noted, the image stabilization function works very well, and corrects "the shakes". The push-button switch on top that must be continually pressed is not a problem, but would certainly be better as an on/off with a timer. Included are a case and lens caps for the eye lenses, but no caps for the objective lenses. There is an easy fix for that omission: Get two 37 mm plastic snap-in lens caps from the lenscaps web site (part no. PLC37, only a buck each plus shipping). These work adequately well. They are not as good as Canon caps would be, but Canon caps are not available.
Digital camera Review: Great Compromise between Cost and Features! Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned a pair of Canon 10X30 image stablization binoculars for over a year now. Both the image clarity and the performance of the image stabilization are very good. These binoculars are not too heavy as well; however, you may consider replacing the included thin nylon Canon strap with either a neoprene strap from Op/Tech or a secured strap from Pacsafe. I have also recommended the 10X30 IS to a few friends who have either gone on to either purchase their own 10X30 IS or the 12X36 II.
This product is what I consider to be a great compromise of cost and features. While the Canon 8X25 IS was a little cheaper than the Canon 10X30, I preferred the fact that the 10X30 takes AA batteries instead of special lithium CR batteries like in the case of the 8X25. Of course if would have been nice to have the power of the 12X36 II, but of course those binoculars are about $200 more. I do wish it had weather-sealing protection, but at this price, it is hard to expect this feature.
While I love these binoculars, I have never been happy with the included Canon nylon zipper case as any binocular straps get in the way of the zipper on the case. It has been very difficult to look for a better 3rd party case for these binoculars due to the irregular shape as it is a hybrid of a roof prism and porro prism design. After a lot of searching, I finally found that the Think Tank Photo Skin 50 is a great case for these Canon 10X30 binoculars. The zipperless loop-and-hook design of the Think Tank Skin 50 allows me to place my binoculars inside without having zippers get in the way of my Pacsafe binocular/camera strap. The noise-less velcro option make it easy for my to remove or secure my binoculars during plays and concerts.
Again, this is a fine pair of binoculars; however, a third party case and strap may be needed. Amazon was able to deliver these binoculars on time, without damage.
Digital camera Review: Great Purchase Summary: 5 Stars
My family and I go up to the Yellowstone area every year and enjoy looking for wolves and bears. This year I decided to do like the professionals and buy a spotting scope. I found a highly rated one on Amazon, but then I stumbled on these binoculars. While the scope was good, the binoculars were amazing.
The main advantage of a scope is that it holds still so you can see the animals. The problem is sometimes people bump the scope with their eyes thus moving and it and inconveniently the animals decide to move as well.
With these binoculars the wide field of view makes it easy to find the animals and with image stabilization there is no problem seeing them clearly.
Needless to say, the scope was returned but I kept the binoculars. If I were a little richer I would have the gotten the 12x model. With most binoculars increased power just means increased shake, but with the image stabilization that shouldn't be a problem.
