Digital camera reviews of Canon 2344A001 E1 Hand Strap for Eos Rebel SeriesDigital camera Review: Buy only if you intend to leave it on. Summary: 3 Stars
So I thought I would let you know my thoughts on this strap. I have a 30D with battery grip. (Must have grip to use this strap). The beef that I have with it is that it takes some time to switch the camera back to prosummer mode. Ie. Take off hand strap, take off neck strap, take off battery grip, put back on neck strap. It would have been nice to have the strap with strong clips to make this a faster turn around time. Additionally, you will find that if you have large hands that this strap makes the position of the shutter finger not where you would necessarily want it.
The strap does however provide a useful purpose in that is makes the camera secure. It is up to you however, I think that for me it was probably a poor investment unless I really want to ditch the neckstrap and really never want to remove the vertical grip.

This item arrived well before the predicted date. The description did not indicate it was merely a replacement strap for a complete assembly to attach to a camera. Now I on a quest for a the connector piece so I can actually use the strap.
Digital camera Review: Can't Live Without It! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm on my second Canon DSLR(a Rebel XT and now a 40D). Both Have had wrist grips, on my Rebel I used a knock of Kata Model. On my new 40 I opted to go with the E1. Once it was on I immediately noticed the difference in comfort, the canon version has a little more cushioning which really makes a difference after a full day of shooting.
This wrist strap is maybe the most important accessory second or equal to the battery grip. Once your dealing with a heavy camera and a lot of glass it's impossible to put a long lens on and still use the neckstrap, its too much weight on that part of your body.
The only downsides I found were this version unlike the cheaper one didn't come with a tripod mount, so if your not using the grip there is no where to put the strap if I recall!
I would highly highly recommend this and for anyone looking to get into the hobby more seriously it is a must have.

Great comfortable and secure strap without any of the drawbacks of a traditional neck strap. I have been frustrated by neck straps that get in the way during that 95% of the time when it was not on my neck. I have now used this for many 2-3 hour portrait sessions and a full 12 hour day of wedding coverage. Worked great! Very secure yet easy to slip in and out of when I need to. I now keep this on my hand 95% of the time and have it loose for 5%. In the past my danger of dropping was much higher due to my annoyance with neck straps. I love that you can relax your hand to save your grip for when you need it, but there is no danger of dropping or having your camera swing into things. I use it on 5D MKII w/winder and a 70-200 2.8L IS -- Nice little insurance policy for all the money! In the past I purchased a non-Canon hand strap that was not good. I was not a well made and had to be swung out of the way to change batteries, plus it mounted in the tripod socket so it got on the way for those functions also. Pay the extra $5-10 and for the real Canon hand strap !!!
Digital camera Review: Canon E1 Hand Strap Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the Canon E1 hand strap because the off-brand one I was using had it's own plate that needed to be screwed in just to be able to hook-up both the hand strap and the neck strap. I should have just bought the Canon hand strap from the beginning instead of trying to save a few bucks on an off-brand hand strap. The Canon hand strap is also much more comfortable than all the others I've tried.
