Digital camera reviews of Canon BG-E2N Battery Grip for Canon 20D, 30D, 40D & 50D Digital SLR Cameras (Retail Package)

Digital camera Review: Great Product, Although pricey.
Summary: 5 Stars

Just wanted to add that the grip works as stated by the other positive reviewers. Just a word of caution. If the grip is not firmly screwed to the camera, you might think as I did during a shoot that the batteries had run down when the power went to O. Rushed to charge the batteries , charged them, put them back in same thing. The problem was not the batteries but the grip screw had worked itself ever so slightly loose losing contact and giving me a dead camera. At least on my grip it must be fairly snug. I know it seems so obvious, but just a warning anyways, to those who get really excited when things don't work just quite right.

Good for 1000 pictures without the flash with 2 batteries in. Slightly less with IS lenses and live view is electrical intensive also. Went for 4 days on a shoot to west yellowstone this winter, with never having to charge the batteries and using a variety of lenses.

Digital camera Review: Great addition to my 40D
Summary: 5 Stars

For me the BG-E2N is a must have. As a Wedding & Events Photographer I use the added power and the flexibilty of the vertical shutter release as I make alot of vertical shots. I find it more comfortable and controlable using the battery grip. Feels good in my hands and it looks good too!

Digital camera Review: Great addition to the 40D
Summary: 5 Stars

If you find yourself shooting lots of vertical (portrait-style) shots, this is a MUST HAVE accessory because of the shutter and AF point-selection controls. If you find yourself shooting tons of exposures, the additional battery, and the time it affords you before recharging, is going to prove invaluable. And lastly, if you use long, heavier lenses (as I do with the EF 70-200 f/2.8 L) the additional weight on the butt end of the camera actually brings more balance to the rig, making shooting more comfortable. I'm glad I purchased the battery grip.

Digital camera Review: Great for balance and vertical shots
Summary: 5 Stars

Enough positives being mentioned already. I am all for it.

Only negative I can think of is the wheel that turns the screw that connects to the camera. This wheel feels cheap, wobbling quite a bit more than it should. But once tightened, the grip is very secure and firm without any shake or crack as some others mentioned. My Canon grip for 350D Rebel XT is better, believe it or not. The wheel doesn't wobble, the whole thing is tight, and finish feels more solid.

And one wish - Canon will remove the power switch on the grip and let the camera switch drive both the camera and the grip. Hope this is not too hard for Canon.

Digital camera Review: Great grip
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the third Canon grip that I currently own. I use a 30D, 40D, and now a 50D for event photography, and my first grip was the BG-E2 for the 30D. The 40D, and 50D both have the BG-E2N grip, which offers better dust and moisture seals, but both look and feel the same from an operators perspective.

The very early grips had electrical contact issues, but that problem was resolved by the time the 30D was shipping several years ago. I like the extra real estate offered by the grip, the extra battery power, and the fact that it allows me to use the hand strap in place of the neck strap. That alone is worth the cost to me, as I can let a camera hang from my hand with a grip and hand strap all day long in total comfort, even with a big lens like the 70-200 f/2.8 IS L, as opposed to being beaten to near death with the camera bouncing off of my neck and chest as I move about. It also makes the camera ready for instant action. You really have to try the setup to understand, but the combination really delivers.
