I could have gone generic but this at ~$150 I couldn't pass up getting the authentic Canon accessory. Battery life is superb and the grip adds that extra touch to handling the camera. It feels like a real camera and not a toy. I swapped the functions of the '*' and the 'AF-ON' buttons so I can use the '*' to focus independently on the grip.
The grip attaches firmly to the camera with no play whatsoever. The battery compartment hides away inside so you don't lose it.
Must have accessory.

Excellent battery grip for extra life. Helps a lot in the field. Always with a canon SLR it is the ergonomics that comes in to picture. I have been using Nikon from past 2.4 years and have recently switched to canon 40D. Handling and the feel isn't tht gr8 as Nikon bodies. That's the only thing I miss in canon.
The battery grip, from an ergonomics standpoint, is good. it holds 2 batteries and allows you to shoot longer plus allows you to insert a battery magazine of 6 AA batteries.
I would recommend this grip.

Since purchasing my 30D I have been interested in getting this grip.
Finally took the plunge and bought this about 1 month ago and couldn't be happier. The convenience of having an extra battery while shooting is great.
Seems to blend in very well with the stock body.
I'll agree with the other reviewers that and AF-on button would be nice but its not a huge deal.
I can see it getting a little heavy down the road but thats something I was prepared for.
Overall very nicely designed and definitely an accessory anyone shooting for long periods should have.

You just can't beat the extra battery power this grip holds, plus if need be, just get some AAs and install the AAs in the tray and run your Canon in a emergency. Sure you could just keep loading batteries in the camera when they go dead, but why. For the cost I think it is one of the few options that is worth every penny.
BUT having the 50D, I just wish it had the "AF on" button, oh well can't have everything (4 stars because of that button missing)... I just wonder when the 50D replacement comes out, if they will add a new grip to the line up.
