Digital camera reviews of Canon CanoScan 8800F Color Image Scanner (2168B002)

Digital camera Review: Amazing Scanner!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Canon 8800F scanner is the best scanner! It met all my expectations and more! It is very fast to scan photos, and you can even scan multiple photos as once. I was impressed with the quality of the scan for both slides and negatives, even handling the old 120 film negatives easily. You can email the photos, create jpgs and pdf's, and print. The software that comes with the machine is great...you have many choices of how to scan. I would highly recommend this scanner to anyone who is wanting to archive all their old photos, slides, and negatives!

Digital camera Review: Amazing results with a touch of a button
Summary: 5 Stars

If your looking for an incredible scanner with great software included, I suggest that you consider strongly this scanner. It has exceded my expectations in every way.

I purchased this scanner for the purpose of scanning in four large crates of family photos slides and negatives dating back to the 1800's. The scan quality is phenominal on negatives, slides and pictures even before using the included software to add personal touches. It is the fastest scanner I have ever used and it produces superior results.

The one touch assignable buttons make scanning photos, negatives, slides and PDF documents a near effortless procedure.

Much to my delight was seeing photos that I printed, from the early 1900's negatives, looking better than the original photos.

This is a must buy if you are looking to archive your family history

Digital camera Review: Amazing scanner for old photos !
Summary: 5 Stars

I just got this today, and I'm simply blown away. I had to archive a lot of faded family pictures from 30-40 years ago, and I was getting terrible results with my old scanner (streaking, bad colors, etc.), so I bit the bullet on this scanner based on the Amazon recommendations. WOW, is this thing amazing - the "Fading correction" image correction is beyond words - it makes these terribly faded, yellow pictures look like they were taken recently. Very fast as well.

Digital camera Review: An Excellent Choice
Summary: 5 Stars

I made my decision to purchase this scanner based on Consumer Report magazines' recommendation. I have a good 3 in 1 , but this CanoScan outpreforms it by a mile!!! I don't think anyone will regret this purchase.

Digital camera Review: An excellent (though big) all-around scanner
Summary: 4 Stars

Though Epson scanners continually get good reviews for their image quality, I have found Epson software to be balky, and image quality to be inferior to the equivalent Canon unit. I haven't tested every model out there, but I have both an Epson and a Canon scanner at my office, and the Canon always produces better results even though it is a cheaper model than the Epson. The headaches caused by the Epson's software gives the Canon an even bigger advantage. When it came time to purchase a scanner for my home, going with the Canon was a no-brainer. The first thing to consider about the 8800 is its size. Obviously, all scanner sizes are determined by the size of the plate, but the 8800 is also a fairly tall unit. Opening the door requires a fair amount of room, and you'll want to measure first if you're considering a shelf mount. My 8800 shipped with Canon's version of Photoshop, which includes most of the basic features the amateur will need. It also came with Photoshop Elements 5.0, which contains a few more advanced features, but is not designed to run natively on Intel-based Mac computers. Put simply, if your Mac is about two years old or newer, the supplied copy of Photoshop will run slowly. Otherwise, the supplied software works well--one of the most convenient features is when you are scanning slides, the software automatically recognizes and separates the individual frames in preview mode, allowing you to pick and choose which ones to scan. The scanning quality is the best I've ever experienced (though I only have tried cheaper scanners than this one), and it does well with film negatives, slides, and prints. The only odd results I've gotten are with semi-gloss finishes such as prom pictures--white "sparkles" appear possibly as a result of some kind of reflection. There are a million settings to play with, and hopefully one will sort out that issue. Scanning speed seems fairly slow, but I suppose this is the price to pay when using the extremely high resolution settings the 8800 is capable of. For less than $200, it's hard to imagine wanting much more.
