Digital camera Review: Broken, after 5 months.

I loved this lens. People are right. It takes beautiful pictures. BUT!!! It is made of very cheap materials. I treated this lens with care and today it is broken! The front lens piece fell off and inside I discovered that a small plastic flange had broken off. KAPUT! The purchase of this lens was the culmination of several months of reading reviews and agonizing over cost vs. quality. It seemed like I should buy the higer priced f/1.4 but, as I wanted to upgrade my standard zoom lens too, I could not justify the expense. To my delight, this is an excellent lens. I've used it for some portrait work and at a recent wedding. It really turns out some beautiful pictures. Although I'm not a professional, I do work locally and the addition of this lens to my kit is a significant upgrade. For the price, this is a great lens. Fast focus, and the 1.8 is really amazing for this price. Great image quality, giving a great blur on the back. Works great specially on dark places, and low light conditions!
It's REALLY FRAGILE though. I always baby my lenses, but this one out of a sudden broke. The ring deattached from the barrel. It didn't fall or anything, it just thorn appart while focusing. It has not a scratch on it, just committed suicide. Actually, if you look at it (and I had an inside look, since mine was all the way open) it's simply cheap plastic. I was really disapointed, but then faced as a signal to upgrade to a 1.4.
I highly reccomend this lens, but don't expect using it for long.

This lens is so cheap but it's a great introductory prime lens. I bought this with my Canon XTi and haven't taken it off! I love how beautiful the images are that come from this lens. When I have used my zoom (which was only maybe once when I first got the camera) I have been disappointed with the images in comparison to the prime lens. I just bought the Canon 28mm 1.4 and can't wait to get it. Go Prime!!!Digital camera Review: Disposable
