I just recently purchased my copy of this lens from Amazon.com and let me tell you it was at an excellent price. I got the lens, and went down to 42nd street (NYC) to try it out, and I have to say wow... it's just amazing. I have to really say it's great. You just can't get enough of the super wide angle of the 10mm end of the spectrum. Anyone that has used the 18-55 for most of there time will cry with relief when they order, and get their hands on this lens. The contrast, clarity, and sharpness is amazing. Even the autofocus is super fast...

This is really an amazing lens for a canon crop camera. I purchased to fill out my wide angle options on my 40D, as I also have the Canon 24-105mm. Great image quality, auto focus, and construction, just as all the reviews say. It does take some practice to use the ultra wide range of this lens effectively, but the longer range gives great results right away.Digital camera Review: Amazing lens for 1.6 crop sensor

It's been reviewed to death here and elsewhere so not much to add from me. Amazingly wide, very good contrast and color, nice details also. The only thing to pick on is the plastic look and feel but it is also the plastic that makes this lens so light and portable.
I know this has nothing to do with the product, but I want to add my comments about Amazon. The packaging seems to be getting worse these days, may be they are going green and using less plastic air/bubble to pack but it does not make you feel good when a 700 dollars lens come bouncing in a box with no impact cushion. Having said that, I would have to say Amazon provides the best customer service/support among other merchants that I buy from, I can always buy from Amazon with confidence because I know they would do anything within reason to make my purchase satisfactory. I buy my gear from a few other online merchants too due to availability but their exchange/return policy is nowhere near what Amazon would do for you.

I thought a lot about this lens and sigma 10-20 mm before plunging into Canon and I never regret the decision I took!!
This lens is amazing and provides beautiful wide angle shots with 'WOW' factor in each and every shot... Very less distraction, decently built body...apart from this it is THE Canon Optics that gives this a differentiating factor from other third party manufacturers and it is worth the premium you pay for Canon optics.
