Digital camera reviews of Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS SLR LensDigital camera Review: Lots of lens for the money Summary: 4 StarsWhat more do you want in a basic zoom lens? 3x zoom, compact, image stabilization to help compensate for it not being a particularly fast (wide aperture) lens. Appears to be pretty sturdy for a budget lens and I've had good luck with all the other Canon AF lenses I own.
Digital camera Review: Why did I wait so long? Summary: 4 StarsThis lens is a replacement for a Sigma 18-50mm that I bought with my Canon XT several years ago. For the money this is a great lens, the image stabliser will work nicely when photgraphy my hyper kinetic nephews. To answer my own question, I had a serviceable lens in this focal range, and am too thrifty to replace something that works well enough.
Digital camera Review: Great lens for the $$$ Summary: 4 StarsPROS:
1) Inexpensive
2) Great portrait lens esp @ 35-55mm
3) Sharp, Clear images with great color depth
4) The "Image Stabilizer" works wonders in low light conditions
CONS:
1) plastic rather than metal construction (price)
2) slight vignetting in corners at 17mm
3) auto-focus is a little on the slow side
4) In my experience there is a slight performance degradation in the 17-24mm range, but not really noticeable in panaramic shots.
Having said all that, this lens performs like a $[...] lens the mid-upper focal length range.. it's just a bit slower and not constructed quite so solidy. In fact, in portraits you may want to use a diffusion (soft-focus) filter, otherwise you will see every detail down to split ends in the hair. It's that sharp.
I would definitely buy this again. This is as close to commercial quality shots you will get for under $[...].
Digital camera Review: MET ALL OUR EXPECTATIONS Summary: 4 StarsWe wanted a lens with somewhat wider angle than the one we originally got with our Canon digital SLR. The image stabilization feature is a plus. The lens arrived on time, in good condition and fit the camera. We did not have any trouble mounting and using a polarizing filter. Some reviews mentioned this as a problem. We are happy with the purchase.
Digital camera Review: Canon 18-55mm lens with IS Summary: 5 StarsThis lens was my first with image stabilization. My first picture with it was 1/10 second at F/5.6 hand held at 55mm with a Rebel XT.
The picture was sharp and clear. At least a 3 F stop gain with IS turned on. The performance of this lens has me looking at other more expensive lenses with IS as it appears to be worth the money.
