Before this camera I had a Minolta Dimage A2 and a digital point and shoot. My main subjects are children and other family members. The reason we upgraded was to get a camera that could capture speedy kids and to break into semi-professional photography. This camera is amazingly fast. The kit lens is actually a pretty good lens. It is not a professional $1500 lens, but it is pretty good. The image stabalization is very helpful. If you want great shots for family or are planning on beggining your photography carreer I absolutly recommend this. It is pricy, but well worth it.Digital camera Review: Amazing Canon 40D camera. Amazing Camera.I bought it for sport events. Make amazing pictures in low light places. Really good bargain.
The only complain is about a big screen with low resolution.
It's not always clear if pictures are sharp.

I have owned this camera for about 2 1/2 years. It was recommmended to me by a professional photographer who owned a Canon 20D. I have been more than pleased with this camera. First off - this review is from an entry-level photographer, I have only had point & shoots prior to this. This is my first DSLR so I don't have a ton of experience...I just want to take great pictures, mostly of the family, pets, vacation, occasional sporting events, etc. This camera is great. I just got it over the weekend and I am so amazed by the awesome pictures that I am already seeing. Anyone thinking of getting this camera - don't worry, you will not be disappointed.
Also, the IS lens that is included in kit is pretty nice too. You can definitely notice the IS at work. I tried out an older zoom lens that my dad had (w/o IS) and there was a noticeable improvement with the IS lens.
