Works great, also you can steady the camera better with the extra length.

The item fits the camera body well. It rotates and snaps into place where the factory ring is installed. The plastic threads at the Hood end are very fragile, so I recommend installing a 1A filter between the adapter and hood.
The adapter gives you the advantage to use a 1A filter to prevent objects from touching the operating lenses assembly and also provides a dust/dirt barrier. Of course this also provides a way to add other filters like a polarizing or color filter.
I'm new to "digital" photography. Being familiar with using Olympus SLR cameras I felt that the cost of this item was a bit high for two pieces of plastic. SLR film camera bodies had metal construction.
I like this accessory for the lens protection and also the elimination of sun glare.
Digital camera Review: Canon LAH-DC20 Lens Adapter and Hood Set for the S3 IS Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this adapter and hood set for my 2006 Christmas vacation in Hawaii. I knew that I was going to take a lot of outdoor photographs and wanted to try using a UV filter to make them more crisp. The only way to use add-on filters and lenses with the Canon S3/S2 IS is with this adapter. My only complaint is that there were no instructions provided on how to remove the ring around the lens housing to install the adapter. It's either in the camera's manual (which I didn't bring with me) or it's something that you should already know from experience. Luckily, I remembered seeing a small button just below and to the left of the lens housing on the front of the camera. I had played with it before out of curiosity but never figured out what it was for. This is the button that removes the ring. Hold down the button and rotate the ring a quarter turn, counter clockwise. There are two white dots that need to line up. The lens adapter will replace this ring. Now, install any optional 58mm filter or lens and then the hood set.
One caveat:
Taking photos with no zoom and the hood attached reveals fuzzy black-rounded corners on all of your photos. At no zoom, the camera just barely picks up the hood set. Just a small tap on the zoom will fix this.
With out the hood set, the adapter provides no obsticles.

This is an expensive set of plastic pieces. They do function as described by Canon. But be aware of the VERY FINE PLASTIC threads.
Once the pieces are screwed together, it is VERY hard to get them apart. The plastic will deform while trying to unscrew them. The best approch is to very lightly screw them toghether. This is the best way to unscrew; While holding loosly in your hands and using a loose touch of your fingers, as if letting your fingers slip around the lens adapter, lightly apply finger pressure as turning to unscrew and if you are lucky, the two will seperate.

Nice but it makes my camera too long and I have to uninstall it every time to put them in my camera case. Maybe I need a bigger case.
