Digital camera Review: Canon PGI-5 Black
Summary: 5 Stars

I recommend always using geniune Canon ink and Canon photo paper to achieve optimal results.

Digital camera Review: Canon PGI-5?
Summary: 1 Stars

Received the wrong damned ink cartridges. Supposed to be PG-210 series not PGI-5.
Couldn't find return envelope so didn't bother sending them back.

Digital camera Review: Canon PGI-5BK 2PK
Summary: 5 Stars

These ink cartridges are easy to replace and I love my MP830.

Digital camera Review: Canon PGI_5BK 2- pack ink
Summary: 5 Stars

In talking to other Canon owners they suggested only buying Canon Ink as they had problems with refills and off brands. Off brands are cheaper but I have only used Canon Ink and not had any problems. The ink works great. I ran low at 10PM on a Saturday and conveniently and confidently ordered from Amazon. They also came up as the lowest price on comparison sites.

Digital camera Review: Canon Quality Control Poor
Summary: 3 Stars

I buy Canon Ink because it is allegedly better for the Canon printer. It is unfortunate that one of the two print cartridges in the box had the little plastic spring tab which locks the cartridge in the printer broken off. Again, not so bad -- last year I had the same thing happen -- emailed Canon, they sent me a replacement -- and they probably would again this year or maybe they would think this guy is working us for cartridges -- he keeps breaking the tabs -- must be he is doing something wrong. Well, actually the tabs are broken off inside the plastic wrap before I ever get my fingers involved, but I digress. I have two Canon printers and the PGI-5BK cartridges ran out on both at about the same time. I had my 2-pack of cartridges ready to go (except one of them was broken) so I swapped the one good cartridge back and forth as needed, eventually buying replacements locally when the swapping got too obnoxious.

Right now, I'm not too thrilled with Canon and it points out a problem with Amazon. Good price if I could avoid shipping charges but that meant a wait of 5-7 days. Since I had already allowed for this initially (I had the replacement cartridges on the shelf, ready to go, except one was broken, unknown to me), I started wondering how many back-up cartridges I neeeded to keep me going until i could get a replacement. My answer? Start thinking about buying a different brand printer.

So, if the quality of the cartridges is in question, what about the quality of the ink? I go through about 20 cartridges a year and right now every 20th one is physically unusable, but what about the ink. How bad is it in comparison to third-party ink? And, that's my real problem -- up until now it has always been, "How bad is third party ink in comparison to Canon?", not vice-versa.
